Present Progressive Tense 3B

In English when we want to emphasize that something is going on right now, we use the present progressive tense. It is formed by using :

a form of to be and a present participle

(That’s a verb ending in ing )

In Spanish, it is also VERY easy to make this tense. You need to use:

a form of ___estar____

estoy / estamos
estás / estáis
está / están

and a present participle

That’s a verb ending in __ando (ar)

or iendo (er, ir)

Try a few sentences:

I am turning left. Estoy doblando a la izquierda.

We are learning Spanish. Estamos aprendiendo el español.

She is stopping at the corner. Está parando en la esquina.

Are you writing a letter? ¿Estás escribiendo una carta?

The boys are listening to the teacher. Los muchachos están escuchando a la profesora.

Watch out for IRREGULAR participles

decir / diciendo / vestir / vistiendo
pedir / pidiendo / dormer / durmiendo
repetir / repitiendo / creer / creyendo
seguir / siguiendo / leer / leyendo
server / sirviendo / traer / trayendo
