PREREQUISITES FOR INSTALLING AND SETTING UP THE “DASYMETRIC MAPPING TOOL”:
Microsoft .NET Framework
The .NET Framework version 1.1 must be installed on your machine for the “Dasymetric Mapping Tool” to run. If it’s not already installed, see the following link for FREE download, instructions, and more information.

ArcGIS .NET Support
Note that .NET support is a separate option in the ArcGIS installation; this needs to be selected during installation on both the development and target machines in order for .NET customizations to succeed. If you do not install .NET Support originally, you can run the installation program again and choose Modify option in order to add features to your ArcGIS installation.
*Note – If you already have the Microsoft .NET Framework installed on your computer before you install ArcGIS, the Microsoft .NET Framework should already be enabled within ArcGIS.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
If you are concerned you may not have the most recent version of the tool, please visit http://geography.wr.usgs.gov/science/dasymetric/data.htm to download it (free, no registration).
The latest version of the tool is for ArcGIS 9.1. To install this software you must have Admin rights on the computer and ArcGIS must already be installed. Download the “SetupDasy.msi” file from the website to your PC. Begin the installation by double-clicking “SetupDasy.msi" and follow the instructions of the Set-up Wizard. Choose Defaults for everything except for when it asks, “Install SetupDasy for: personal or everyone.” Choose “Everyone.” It is recommended to save tool in default location.
You will receive a notification if the installation was successful. To use “Dasymetirc Mapping” tool after the installation, open ArcMap and turn the “Dasymetric Mapping” toolbar on by going to ArcMap -- Tools – Customize -- Commands, find the tool named “Dasymetric Mapping” and drag it to an empty space on your ArcMap Toolbar. You must have your input datasets loaded in order for tool to open and operate.
If you receive an error message during installation, or do not see “Dasymetric Mapping” in the list of extensions, please refer to the FAQ's below.
Frequently Asked Questions
The installation program failed (an error occurred). What went wrong?
You must have Administrative privileges to install and uninstall this software (open Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management and look in the User Accounts to see if you are an Administrator). You must have write access to the drive and folder you are trying to install the software to (try copying another file there using Windows Explorer to test this). Is there enough free space on your disk to copy these files?
Do I already have the .NET Framework installed on my PC?
Open Control Panels and click on Add/Remove Programs and check to see if the Microsoft .NET Framework is in the programs list. If this program does not appear, you must download from the link: Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1
