Archaeological Institute of America – Harriet and Leon Pomerance Fellowship
Brief Description: Awarded to enable a person to work on an individual project of a scholarly nature related to Aegean Bronze Age Archaeology. Preference will be given to candidates whose project requires travel to the Mediterranean for the purpose stated above. Requirements: The award is for $5,000. After the tenure of their fellowship, all fellows are expected to submit an abstract to the Program Committee within two years, in accordance with that committee's guidelines, in order to present a paper on their research at the AIA Annual Meeting.

Archaeological Institute of America – Olivia James Traveling Fellowship
Brief Description: For travel and study to be conducted between July 1 of the award year and the following June 30. Preference will be given to projects of at least a half-year's duration. The award is to be used for travel and study in Greece (the modern state), Cyprus, the Aegean Islands, Sicily, southern Italy (that is, the Italian provinces of Campania, Molise, Apulia, Basilicata, and Calabria), Asia Minor (Turkey) or Mesopotamia (that is, the territory between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, that is modern Iraq and parts of northern Syria and eastern Turkey). Although the proposal may require travel outside these areas, the majority of travel proposed must be within them. The award of $25,000 is not intended to support field excavation projects. Preference will be given to individuals engaged in dissertation research or to those who received their Ph.D. within five years of the application deadline.

Brookdale Foundation – Leadership in Aging Fellowship Program
Brief Description: The fellowship provides two years of support to junior academics to focus on a project that will help establish them in an area of aging research. The fellowship is open to a broad range of disciplines, including, but not limited to, medical, biological and basic sciences, nursing, social sciences, and the arts and humanities. We seek candidates who: (1) display leadership potential; (2) demonstrate an ongoing commitment to a career in aging; (3) have support from a mentor (or mentors); (4) and will commit at least 75% of his or her time for career development during each of the two years of the Fellowship. The award is a two-year grant paid to the candidate’s sponsoring institution in support of the candidate’s research project. The grant (up to $125,000 each year) is intended to cover 75% of the Fellow’s time, base salary and fringe benefits.
Eligibility: Candidates should be between the first and tenth years of their graduate degree.

Ford Foundation – Diversity Fellowships- Dissertation Fellowships
Brief Description: The fellowships provide one year of support for individuals working to complete a dissertation leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) degree. Dissertation fellowships will be awarded in a national competition administered by the National Research Council (NRC) on behalf of the Ford Foundation. The awards will be made to individuals who, in the judgment of the review panels, have demonstrated superior academic achievement, are committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level, show promise of future achievement as scholars and teachers, and are well prepared to use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students, such as a capacity to respond in pedagogically productive ways to the learning needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
Criteria include membership in one or more of the following groups whose underrepresentation in the American professoriate has been severe and longstanding: Alaska Natives (Aleut, Eskimo or other Indigenous People of Alaska); Black/African Americans; Mexican American/Chicanas/Chicanos; Native American Indians; Native Pacific Islanders (Hawaiian/ Polynesian/Micronesian); Puerto Ricans.

Ger man Academic Exchange Service/ Deutscher Academischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD) Special Programs -- Leo Baeck Institute DAAD Fellowship
Brief Description: The Leo Baeck Institute is a research, study, and lecture center whose library and archives offer comprehensive documentation for the study of the history and culture of German-speaking Jewry. Funds are available for research at the Leo Baeck Institute in New York or research in Germany on the social, communal, and intellectual history of German-speaking Jewry. Financial assistance is provided to doctoral students for dissertation research and to young academics for the preparation of a scholarly essay or book.

Newberry Library Short-Term Fellowships
Newberry Library Short-Term Resident Fellowships for Individual Research. Short-term fellowships provide access to the Newberry's collections for scholars who live and work outside the Chicago area. Normally, fellowships are awarded to individual scholars. We will, however, award a small number of fellowships teams of two or three scholars who plan to collaborate on a single, substantive project. The stipend is $1600 per month for each scholar.
Susan Kelly Power and Helen Hornbeck Tanner Fellowship. This fellowship is for scholars of American Indian heritage. The fellowship provides up to two months of residential research in any field in the humanities using the collections of the Newberry Library, and provides a stipend of $1600 per month. Applicants need not be from outside the Chicago area.
South Central Modern Language Association (SCMLA) Fellowship. This one-month fellowship supports work in residence at the Newberry Library by a member of the South Central Modern Language Association with a $2000 stipend. SCMLA membership must be current at the time of application and through the period of the fellowship. Graduate students must have been SCMLA members for one year; all others must have been SCMLA members for two years before applying.
Short-Term Fellowship in the History of Cartography Short-term fellowship ($1600) supports work in residence at the Newberry on projects related to the history of cartography, focused on cartographic materials in the Library's collection.
American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies Fellowship. This short-term fellowship ($1600) is for scholars wishing to use the Newberry's collections to study the period 1660-1815; applicants must be members of ASECS at time of the award.

N ational S cience F oundation (NSF) – Gradua te Research Fellowship Program (GRFP)
Brief Description: The GRFP helps ensure the vitality and diversity of the scientific and engineering workforce in the US. The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees in fields within NSF's mission, and provides three years of support for the graduate education of individuals who have demonstrated their potential for significant achievements in science and engineering research. For each year of support, NSF provides a stipend of $30,000 to the Fellow and a cost-of-education allowance of $10,500 to the institution.

Albright Institute of Archaeological Research (AIAR) – Educational and Cul tural Affairs (ECA) Fellowships

Brief Description: Fellowships are to assist graduate students in the humanities and related social sciences in the last year of Ph.D. dissertation writing. This program aims to encourage timely completion of the Ph.D. Applicants must be prepared to complete their dissertations within the period of their fellowship tenure or shortly thereafter. Fellowship tenure may be carried out in residence at the Fellow's home institution, abroad, or at another appropriate site for the research. Fellowships include funds for university fees and research support (together w/ stipend the award may total up to $33,000) but may not be held concurrently with any other major fellowship or grant.

American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) – Collection Study Grants
Brief Description: Collection Study Grants provide financial assistance to enable predoctoral and recent postdoctoral investigators to study the scientific collections at the American Museum. These collections represent the fields of zoology, paleozoology, anthropology, earth and planetary sciences and astrophysics. The visit must be arranged through and sponsored by an American Museum of Natural History curator.

Association for Asian Studies, Inc. (AAS) / Northeast Asia Council (NEAC) – Research Travel - North America
Brief Description: The NEAC, in conjunction with the Korea Foundation, offers a grant program in Korean studies designed to assist the research of individual scholars based in North America, to improve the quality of teaching about Korea on both the college and precollege levels, and to integrate the study of Korea into the major academic disciplines. Travel awards are available to scholars who are engaged in research on Korea and wish to use museum, library, or other archival materials located in the U.S. and Canada.
