Minutes of March 26, 2008 Director Meeting

Stoughton Safety Building, 7:30 – 8:45 pm

Attendees: Ann Briggs, Lori Wersal, Dave Wollin, Sean Hendrickson, Dan Zarnstorff

The meeting was called to order at 7:37pm. The minutes from the February Board Meeting were approved by Sean Hendrickson and seconded by Lori Wersal.

Dave gave an update on a number of items relating to the team.

□  Fifteen jerseys have been ordered and will be ready in about a week or two in time for games.

□  Parent practice, team pictures and a team meal will be held on April 9. All parents encouraged to come and ask questions about lacrosse at 5 pm at Racetrack Park. Team pictures will be taken and a meal at the Cinema Café will follow practice. Cost is $5 per person. Parents and players are invited and should RSVP Dave Wollin.

□  Three Club players are receiving referee training.

The Board discussed the option to add terrorism coverage on the liability rider for the Club’s liability insurance and decided to exclude it due to the low probability of its occurrence in Stoughton.

Dan provided a summary of the March 5 MALA meeting. The organization is having difficulty finding enough adult referees for games. Individuals interested should contact MALA. The organization has adequate youth referees. Dan also talked about a couple of camps that players should consider during the summer. Information about the camps will be posted on the Stoughton Lacrosse Club website.

The Club has a need for volunteers to videotape lacrosse games. The Board decided to use JV and Varsity players for the task since they are present at the games already.

Dave told the Board that this would be his last year coaching the team. Board members agreed that more effort should be made to involve freshman and sophomore parents in the Board. Members discussed having players discuss need for parent involvement with their parents. Without parent involvement, the Club will not be able to survive and grow.

Dave led a discussion of fund raising efforts. Two dates are set for fundraising. On Saturday, April 12, the Club will be sponsoring food at the game at Racetrack Park. Three parents and kids are needed. Interested parents should contact Ann?

On May 10, the managers will be working the brat stand in front of Mike’s Liquor. Volunteers are needed to assist. This is the day of the Club’s Wausau game, so it will be important to find parents to assist. Interested parents should contact ??

Lori reported that the Club has received preliminary approval for its 501c3 tax exempt status. This exempts the Club from paying federal income tax. More importantly, it will allow businesses who donate to the Club to deduct their donation as a charitable contribution on their taxes. Final approval should be obtained in the next few weeks. Filing with the state is not required unless the Club earns more than $5,000 in donations in a tax year. The Club is not exempt from state sales taxes. The Board will monitor contributions this year and determine whether state filing is required. A treasurer report was provided to members present. The current Club balance is $4,349.

The next Director meeting will be April 27th at 7:00 pm at the Public Safety building. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm.
