GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, responsible for organizing, directing, teaching, supervising, and evaluating all in-service education for the Nursing Home staff and agency nursing staff as requested by DON.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:*

·  Formulates the philosophy and objectives of the in-service education program for the facility.

·  Identifies individual and collective learning needs of personnel and provides learning experiences to meet those needs.

·  Plans, coordinates, supervises, and documents all in-service education programs.

·  Provides in-service education sessions to staff on their respective shifts.

·  Encourages and facilitates staff participation in both the planning and the teaching/learning process of the programs offered.

·  Maintains records on each employee as to all educational programs attended, including orientation, in-service and outside programs.

·  Serves as the Infection Control Coordinator and Antibiotic Stewardship Committee Chair for the Nursing Home with responsibilities including infection surveillance and monitoring; and attendance at state-wide infection control practitioner meetings.

·  Coordinates all employee health activities; maintains health records for all employees; coordinates flu shot clinics and employee health orientations.

·  Plans, implements, tracks and evaluates orientation of all new employees as it relates to essential job functions, health policies, safety issues, and infection control.

·  Provides orientation to agency nurses to ensure understanding of Grafton County Nursing Home policy and procedures.

·  Coordinates and serves as a member of the Quality Improvement Committee.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (continued):*

·  Schedules and conducts monthly fire drills. Provides administration with information on drills due each month on education calendar.

·  Provides documentation on drill outcomes to administration.

·  Prepares and corrects “Mandatory” packets each year for all Grafton County Nursing Home staff (HIPAA, Compliance, Fire Safety, Infection Prevention). Follows-up on outstanding packets and reports non-compliance to DON.

·  Serves as a CPR Instructor, coordinates and conducts classes and recertifications.

·  Maintains a record of LNA contact hours and follows-up on issues of non-compliance. Reports non-compliance to DON.

·  Participation in on-call coverage of nursing schedule on a rotating basis with ADNS, DON, MDS Coordinator and evening supervisor.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·  Promotes and maintains positive community relations.

·  Must be flexible regarding work schedule/availability.

·  Submits to a TB skin test as required, unless otherwise exempted.

·  Reports any workplace safety concerns to Supervisor immediately.

·  Attends all mandatory in-services.

·  Participates in continuing education and advanced study of professional development in order to meet mandatory requirements of professional status. Responsible for maintaining required number of CEU’s for state relicensure.

·  Performs other related duties as required.

·  Maintains the confidentiality of all resident and facility information, and ensures such information is not released without proper authorization.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED:

Duties require knowledge of Nursing Home Educational Program Management and Administration. Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of two to four years of related nursing experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be a licensed Registered Nurse (or licensable) in the State of New Hampshire.

Demonstrates understanding of and commitment to quality care of the long-term facility resident.

Must possess knowledge of, or be willing to learn the MDS process.

Demonstrates understanding of and interest in the teaching/learning process.

Requires a thorough knowledge of correct coding and use of PDA’s and kiosks.

Must possess a current, valid CPR Instructor Certification or the willingness to obtain this certification.

Recognizes a personal commitment to continuing professional development.

Knowledge in the theories and practice of nursing, infection control, and quality control.

Leadership, planning, and management skills.

Ability to be detail oriented and handle multiple tasks.

Organizational skills with an eye for accuracy and attention to detail.

Must be computer literate.

Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

Ability to obtain cooperation and desired outcomes from all departments.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; to establish positive public

relations for the County; and to interact effectively with a wide variety of people.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position is responsible for supervising the activity of Nursing Home staff as it relates to infection prevention, safety, educational and orientation activities.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is performed primarily in nursing home environment, which is generally not subject to extremes in temperature, odors, etc.

May require moderate lifting of equipment and classroom materials, up to 30 pounds.

Uses computer, copier, TV/VCR, video camera, overhead projector and other electronic devices requiring eye/hand coordination and finger dexterity.

Work requires frequent walking, standing, bending.

Exposure to possible infectious and communicable diseases and other biological hazards requiring exercise of appropriate safety and standard precautions.
