Objectives:

· To give students the opportunity to use desktop publishing skills and use their own creativity to prepare a personal magazine.

· Students will be required to have text and pictures on each page.

· The activity is used to assist students in making future plans.

· Students will learn basic operation of Microsoft PowerPoint.

· Students give oral presentation of their completed magazine.

Instructions:

This project is to be a personal reflection of you as a person. The magazine will be 12 pages in length with the following parts.

1. Cover – Magazine type cover with photos, graphics, headlines, etc.

2. Table of Contents with page numbers. (must resemble a magazine not a research paper)

3. Family Page – This page is to include pictures, stories, information, etc. about your family. It can be the entire family, a specific family memory, your family heritage, or whatever angle is suitable to you.

4. Friends Page – This page is devoted to your friends, any special occasions, funny times, special relationships, etc.

5. Hobbies – This can include sports, clubs, groups you’re involved with, things you enjoy doing in your spare time, etc.

6. Food/Nutrition/Health – This page needs to touch on any one or all of those areas that are important to you. It may be your favorite meal, favorite type of food with recipes and/or cooking instructions; dining suggestions complete with restaurant critiques; or it may be your favorite workout, exercise program, etc.

7. Future Plans – On this page you get to dream. Think about where you want to go and what you want to do. Remember that it’s okay to be realistic and/or simplistic. This doesn’t have to include extravagant travel plans. It may be just your college that you are interested in attending.

8. Childhood Memories – This page gives you an opportunity to look back at your childhood years and remember special events, special friends, a favorite toy, a peculiar habit, etc. You may need to talk to a parent/guardian on this one to get some help.

9. Free Page – This page is your free page. You get to chose what you include on it, but please use good taste. This could include a “special person”, a “special pet”, poems or a short story you’ve written, etc.

10. Back Cover – This may be more simplistic. It could include people you’d like to thank, an advertisement you create for “something”, or whatever creative closing you choose.

11. Cites Used – This page includes all of the references or websites that you used to obtain information in your magazine. This page can be created as a bulleted list or table.

12. Video – This page will include a personal video of yourself.
