Okaloosa-Walton College will begin offering and Associate of Applied Science Degree in Emergency Administration and Management in the Fall Semester of 2006. The degree will have four areas of emphasis - Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Fire Science and Criminal Justice.
Funding has been received from the State of Florida to begin architectural design work on a Community Services Complex that will be located on our main campus in Niceville, FL. The Community Services Complex is the result of a partnership formed between OWC and the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners. The complex will be home to Okaloosa County Emergency Management, Okaloosa County Emergency Operations Center, Okaloosa County Emergency Medical Services, various other county Okaloosa County Public Safety offices, a shelter for disaster evacuees, and the OWC Division of Public Safety.
I am excited about the Emergency Management and Homeland Security programs planned for OWC and I look forward to meeting persons from schools that are either beginning or have similar programs in place.
