COURSE DESCRIPTION

Primarily designed for those who take the 3 credit hour internship experience, this course combines classroom instruction in congregational ministry practices with assignments that apply the material in local church settings.

RATIONALE

This class is at the conclusion or can be done prior to your internship. Discussion that ministry is not a three month “do and done” item; it involves a “season of ministry.” This course is to open students into situations and problems associated with ministry.

OBJECTIVES

1. Read RESILIENT MINISTRY and discuss the various topics of the book and apply them to ministry.

2. Listen to and then visit various ministry models within the Cincinnati area and then report on your observations.

3. Discussion various problem associated with ministry in general.

ATTENDANCE

You are expected to be in class. If you miss more than two weeks of class (two sessions) you will receive the grade of FA (failure due to absences) in the class. Please remember that there are NO excused absences. You are expected to be on time to class. Three tardies will result in one absence.

Assignments are due on the date listed below. Anything turned in late will receive a 5-point reduction until the assignment reaches a zero (20 days late). No grace will be given after the 20-day period. You can turn in all assignments early.

ASSIGNMENTS

1. You will read the various chapters of the book RESILIENT MINISTRY and type 300 words on what you learned about each section. These are to be typed and turned into moodle before it begins.

2. You will have five guests come to class and talk about their ministry. You will then visit the church the following Sunday and observed the ministry. You will take the attached sheet (one for each ministry) and write down your observations. You will then take all five and write a report about what you observed. You will then give your findings to the class on December 9th. You will be graded for both oral and written reports.

3. Students will select a ministry to work within their desired field for the months of September, October, November, and December (our college schedule). You can work as a volunteer or paid staff. This will count towards your Christian service at the same time. You will periodically report to the class what is going on in this ministry.

4. There will be a final covering the book, lectures, and observations.
