JOB PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Academic Services Manager, the post holder will be responsible for supporting students and staff at York St John through delivering digital and information literacy sessions, providing information on resources, and by managing the relevant part of the library collections. Prior knowledge of specific subject areas taught at York St John would be useful but is not essential. More important is an enthusiasm to become familiar with relevant resources and an ability to communicate that enthusiasm to students. This role is one which requires the post holder to be flexible; this will enable them to work within a field which requires a proactive approach and an ability to respond rapidly to fast-developing situations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·  Deliver digital and information literacy sessions, including via e-learning opportunities.

·  Act as liaison point between ILS and academic/administrative staff; this will include representing ILS at appropriate meetings.

·  Promote and market ILS services, using appropriate technologies and encourage feedback from stakeholders.

·  Provide information support for teaching staff and students, including relevant electronic resources.

·  Manage the library collection in all formats, including information resources such as online bibliographic databases.

·  Maintain module reading lists on Rebus:List, creating new lists as required by academic staff.

·  Update subject specific and general guides and web pages.

·  Contribute to the provision of information about resources for the validation and revalidation process for new and existing programmes.

·  Contribute to appropriate ILS projects.

·  Provide second line help, advice and support for Library resources, information seeking and referencing. Take responsibility for support issues and ensure their timely resolution.

·  Liaise with colleagues at partner institutions and organisations.

·  Create an inclusive environment that welcomes and supports all students and staff.

·  Attend conferences, training events and represent the University on relevant external bodies.

Progression to Grade 6

Progression is not an automatic process. The postholder will need to demonstrate that they have attained the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to progress to a Grade 6. It is expected that in addition to the above, the postholder will:

·  Develop and evaluate digital and information literacy sessions, including via e-learning opportunities.

·  Develop the relationship between ILS and academic/administrative staff; this will include ensuring ILS representation at School meetings.

·  Ensure ILS services are being fully exploited by School staff and students, developing current awareness services.

·  Develop information support for teaching staff and students with the inclusion of new electronic resources and new technologies.

·  Develop the library collection in all formats, ensuring Schools are fully engaged with Reading Resource Strategy and Information Resource Management and Access Policy.

·  Develop academic staff engagement with Rebus:List in relevant programme areas, taking a creative approach to lists delivering relevant information to staff and students.

·  Take an innovative approach to subject specific and general information produced by the team, adopting best practice from the sector to keep staff and students fully informed.

·  Develop research support, including the provision of training sessions for research students and staff.

·  Continue to attend conferences, training events and represent the University on relevant external bodies, presenting at conferences and events where possible.

·  Contribute to the research profile of Information Learning Services by participating in/contributing to research projects as appropriate.
