JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Communications Coordinator, Sing For Joy
REPORTS TO: Director of Broadcast / Media Services
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Communications Coordinator is the primary liaison between the Sing For Joy radio program and the public. The position ensures that the finished products (radio program, newsletter and website) reach the public. This is done, in part, by assisting other Broadcast Media staff, coordinating schedules, and being first point-of-contact for the public. This position is also responsible for raising $40,000 in listener contributions annually and maintaining contact with our corporate sponsors.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
1. Liaison with public
Manage distribution schedule by working with stations, Director and Associate Director of Broadcast / Media Services, and student workers to ensure timely delivery of program CDs. Work with stations to maintain current carriage lists. Provide “first contact” with the public by responding to listener letters, e-mails and phone calls.
2. Marketing
Coordinate, compile and edit the Sing For Joy monthly newsletter and station playlists; manage distribution of newsletter with the printer and mail-house; create content and design for ads, brochures and other print marketing; periodically purchase ad space. Represent program at on- and off-campus events. Develop and implement campaigns with Director of Broadcast Media to increase station carriage and listener awareness. Facilitate distribution of the annual Christmas Festival special broadcast.
3. Manage Sing For Joy web site and social media portals
Plan and maintain all areas of the Sing For Joy web site in consultation with the Associate Director of Broadcast Media, including: general program information; weekly content of program, playlists and newsletters; carriage information; special event information; and online donation mechanisms. Curate Sing For Joy’s presence on social media platforms such as Facebook.
4. Manage Sing For Joy’s donor database and Stewardship operations
Coordinate processes with Advancement Services/Data Services to record all gifts, enter donors into database, run reports, and prepare receipts. Render timely acknowledgement of donors, memorial gifts, and issuance of pledge drive gifts.
5. Fundraising
Schedule and coordinate fundraising efforts in consultation with the Director of Broadcast Media, including direct mailings and inclusions in the newsletter. Nurture relationship with primary corporate sponsors.
6. Office Management
Process and code invoices and statements; maintain inventory of Sing For Joy support supplies; monitor office equipment; coordinate submission of timecards of the Sing For Joy student worker. Assist Director and Associate Director of Broadcast Media as required. Work with Director of Broadcast Media to develop budget.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise Sing For Joy student workers.
CONTACTS: Regular contact with faculty, staff, alumni, students, donors and listeners of Sing For Joy and online audio offerings. Frequent contact with stations that broadcast Sing For Joy and Sing For Joy vendors (mail house and printers).
EDUCATION: Essential: High School diploma or equivalent and
post-secondary education.
Desirable: Bachelor’s degree; preferably post-secondary education in a related field of study (communications and/or marketing concentration)
EXPERIENCE: Essential: Experience developing and maintaining good client
relationships; website design and maintenance; writing, editing, designing and producing print pieces.
Desirable: Understanding and knowledge of the church liturgical calendar and sacred music.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
· Demonstrated ability to write professional correspondence and other prose.
· Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite to design monthly newsletter and other promotional and informational pieces.
· Knowledge of Dreamweaver, WordPress or other website editing software.
· Highly competent in use of Microsoft Office to keep data and produce reports.
· Ability to deal with public and clients with ease and grace.
· (Desirable) Rudimentary knowledge of database software such as Raiser’s Edge or Millenium.
· This position requires a great deal of self-motivation and attention to detail while having a keen grasp of the big picture.
· Sense of humor.
