About the positions

The two people hired will work together, with support from District personnel, to identify and treat invasive plants in the Buffalo Peaks, Mt. Massive, and Collegiate Peaks Wilderness areas. Duties include identifying non-native invasive plant species; surveying wilderness trailheads, trails, disturbed areas and riparian areas within the three wilderness areas for non-native invasive plants; using GPS units to map the areas surveyed, and the extent of invasive plant populations; treating invasive plants by mechanical and/or chemical means; recording survey and treatment data on field forms and entering data into a computer database; making public contacts in the field to explain the benefits of natural resource management; and other duties as assigned in support of the wilderness management program. The work is physically strenuous, involving hiking many miles each day, on and off trail, at elevations exceeding 11,000 feet, and in all types of weather conditions. It will include some nights out in the field in the more remote parts of the wilderness. The duty station will be the Leadville Ranger District office in Leadville, CO.
