Vision and Mission

Biotechnology is a multi-disciplinary science. Our institute offers a unique environment rich in access to cooperation with various biotech industries, ranging from orchids to DNA vaccine. Our mission is to apply genetic engineering technology to explore and benefit biotech industry. We implement the government’s industrial goals and needs into teaching and cultivate biotechnology experts in preparation for the second technology corridor in Kaohsiung area.

Goals

The curriculum of the Institute puts emphasis on both theories and applications of molecular biology in order to cultivate high-tech experts for the biotechnology industry. Key areas of expertise include:

n  Gene cloning from animals, plants, and other organisms for industrial needs

n  Application of biotechnology to improve plant cultivars such as orchids and mass production technologies

n  Gene transfer technology

n  Innovation of animal vaccines

Postgraduate Opportunities

Advanced Degree Study

Besides the Ph.D. program which is currently under development by the Institute, students are encouraged to pursue a Ph.D. degree in other universities in Taiwan or abroad.

Career Opportunities

Our students have a wide range of career options after graduation. Graduates can conduct scientific research in government agencies or work directly for companies in fields such as biotechnology, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, marine biology, food, environment protection, etc.

Future Outlook

Currently, we are recruiting more faculty members and expanding research facilities to build a leading integrated advanced research and teaching program.

Meanwhile a long-term collaboration plan with the Taiwan Orchid Plantation (TOP) Park is also achieved to strengthen research. In response to the progression of various biotech centers, the Institute will keep working closely with the local scientific community covering the scientific parks in Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Luzhu, the agricultural center of the Taiwan Sugar Corporation, the environmental technology divisions of the Chinese Petroleum Corporation in the hope of producing top-notch advanced researchers for industry.
