Minutes of February 2011 Meeting

1. Welcome
Alan opened the meeting and thanked everyone for coming.
2. Action points from last meeting
§ Alan to get Graeme Nisbet a leaving gift - Alan confirmed that he got a box of lager for Graeme.
§ Alan to contact Parent Council re fitting of smartboard – Alan confirmed that he contacted Sandra Brickell from the Parent Council and it would be discussed at their meeting, also being held tonight in the school library.
§ Evelyn MacDonald to check with new school janitor re completion of school benches – Evelyn was not at the meeting so this has still to be double checked however, Laura Black did say that the new janitor seemed very hands on and didn’t think it would be a problem. Action point: Laura to check with Evelyn.
§ Family Games Night – Carol was not at the meeting but Ann confirmed that she had been looking in to it and had also thought that doing it in the lighter nights would be best, this would allow families to walk to the school. This will be discussed in more detail at the next meeting.
3. Appointment of Secretary
Following Lorna’s resignation, Kirsty Robertson kindly offered to take on the Secretary role; everyone at the meeting welcomed this. Kirsty was nominated by Alan Brown and seconded by Ann Young and Karen Mason.
4. Recognition and Thanks
§ Recognition and thanks goes to Laura Black for organising the Zumbathon Night that will take place on Friday, 11 March 7-9pm in the school hall.
§ Thanks also go to parent Craig Cantell for donating a Virgin Rail Pass for up to four people for first class travel within the UK. This will be used as a raffle prize at the Zumbathon. Action Point: Kirsty to write letter of thanks to Virgin Rail.
5. Update on Accounts
Carol was not at the meeting but Alan confirmed that we would soon receive a cheque from easyfundraising for £52.60. We have raised £281.78 so far through easyfundraising.
6. Support to the School
§ It was agreed at the last meeting to fund two computers at a cost of £1028 – these computers are on order.
§ End of Term Trophies – it was agreed to purchase end of term trophies again this year, one per class. These are given in recognition of the children’s efforts in class e.g. best writer. This cost in the region of £150 last year, engraving was an extra £2/£3 per trophy.
§ Easter Egg Competition – it was agreed to do again this year, one prize per class. Laura Black to organise egg template and confirm when the Easter Assembly will be held. Volunteers will be needed to choose best drawings and to hand out prizes.

7. Request for Playground Equipment
Some children had made a request to Sarah Perkins for some hula-hoops and footballs. It was agreed to give £300 to the school for playground equipment (of their choice) In the interim there is a box of skipping ropes leftover from a previous fayre that the children could have.
8. Quiz Night
The Quiz Night will be held on Friday 25 February in The Rumford Arms (7:30pm start). Alan confirmed that already there were nine teams (54 people). Donations will be needed for raffle prizes.
9. School Uniforms
Maddiston was the only school still using Fruit of the Loom. Jerzees offer superior quality and sizing. Alan agreed to collate the orders. Volunteers will be needed at a later stage to help distribute the orders.
10. Zumbathon
The Zumbathon will be held on Friday 11 March between 7:00 – 9:00pm in the school hall, Nicola Miller, qualified Zumba instructor, will take it. Tickets will cost £5 (or pay at the door) and will include participating in as much Zumba as you want plus stalls and refreshments. Refreshments to include soft drinks only and nibbles will be provided. Participants will be told to bring a bottle of water with them (printed on the tickets). Laura has created a poster to put up around the village. Stalls will include jewellery (Lynne), Party Lite, Phoenix Cards, Jamie Oliver at Home. We thought stall-holders could be approached to donate a raffle prize. Three free Zumba class pass also offered as a raffle prize. Stalls will be located outside the dining room. 100 tickets will be printed. Ann Young & Kirsty Robertson to get the nibbles etc. A section will be added to the next Newsletter advising those interested to approach a member of the PSA or hand money in to the school and tickets would be sent home via the children. Ann Young and Laura Black to liaise over stalls.

11. Family Games Night
This will be discussed at the next meeting.
12. Future Fundraisers / Ideas
It was agreed that there were enough events coming up and this item would be discussed again at the next meeting.
13. A.O.B.
§ Alan confirmed that he now had the mobile phone recycling envelopes and would soon put to the school to be sent home with the children.
§ Alan reminded everyone about the training courses email he had sent. If anyone is interested, please either book directly or let Alan know.
§ Kirsty was to look into renewing the gaming license. Action Point: Kirsty Robertson
