Dear (Name):
On behalf of the NAME Children’s Dyslexia Center, Inc., I am pleased to enclose a proposal requesting a grant of $AMOUNT to support the center’s highly successful after-school remedial tutoring program for children with dyslexia.
The NAME Children’s Dyslexia Center belongs to a family of tutoring centers established over a decade ago by the Scottish Rite Masons in collaboration with the Language Disorders Unit of Massachusetts General Hospital. There are now more than 40 centers in 13 northeastern and midwestern states. The mission of the centers is to remediate dyslexia, a neurological disorder that makes it extremely difficult for children and adults to read, write and spell.
Although dyslexia has devastating academic and social repercussions for children, it is not always systematically treated in schools. The free remediation program offered at the NAME Children’s Dyslexia Center often results in significant gain in reading level, even in the first year of this two-year program.
The need for our program is clear. The NAME center’s current enrollment is at its maximum of NUMBER students, and it has a waiting list of NUMBER children – some of whom are facing a wait of a year or more before a center tutor becomes available to teach them.
Local support for our programs is critical in order to ensure that we continue to provide free-of-charge tutoring and train additional tutors to serve more children on the waiting list.
I appreciate GRANTMAKER NAME’s consideration of this proposal. If you require any further information about our program or have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at PHONE NUMBER.
Sincerely,
YOUR NAME
Board of Governors,
