Ryan Chanatry – OUAB update
Ryan reported that the new executive training for incoming board has begun. Transitioning into learning how to program and presenting their ideas. OUAB has received positive coverage from the Lantern lately which is helpful.

Casino Night
BFC – Roots, Talib Kweli, Keane, Flogging Molly, Ingram Hill, Brendan Benson, and DJ Logic (www.bfc.ouab.net)– announcing show line-up on Saturday
Movie series going well – movies are every-other Wednesday – standing room only for a couple events
Last comedy night – the three winners will perform on May 25 at 7:30 in ballrooms
Rock the Block – service portion on Saturday

Marie Thornhill – Marketing, Graphics, Photography
Marie reviewed the flyer program and the distribution routes. Great response with people wanting to get involved.
Transition Team
Newsletter – should have new issue in 2 weeks. Helpful info regarding the transition and building process, news related items – union visits.
Next step – consistent messages along with newsletter, lantern ads, signage,
Theme: “Moving around the bases and coming back to home”
New website
- redesigned site w/navigation on left
- Different icons for events
- Featured articles on top which changes when screen refreshed
- Rotating articles and you can view all articles
- Much more organized and easy to navigate
- Includes more pictures, not as text heavy
- Opinion Poll regarding favorite type of OUAB event at bottom of homepage
- Can sign up for e-mail list to get a list of what’s going on at the Union
- Articles can be submitted to Marie for the website
- Suggestion – (can we put directions under where the address is located)
- Webtrends – Ohio Union website is number 1 in visits, #2 in number of hits for Student Affairs
- Suggestions – have form for student orgs to submit articles/events and put directions under the address.
Graphics Area:
- A little over a year old. Showcased some of the posters the graphics department won awards for at ACUI.
- Beth Czekalski will receive a Prism Award from PRSA in central Ohio for the development brochure design.
- In the process of hiring a part-time graphic designer
- Free services to student orgs as area is funded by the student activity fee
- Fee based system to others
- ACUI Region 7 newsletter done by received great reviews
- Suggestion – send calendar to the deans/directors of buildings highlighted and copy development officer as well.
Chris Southard – photo services & virtual EMS
- We are the only university to emphasize photo services in Student affairs
- Mainly OUAB events
- Mission – archive and preserve the events we sponsor and hold here in the union.
- Created a website to put pictures on and are offering these for sale – helps to pay for equipment and services. (www.ohiounionphotos.org)
- Images can be downloaded
- At future events, Chris will take pictures and pass out cards w/website listed for people to go on the website to look at their photos and order if they would like.
- Student oriented
- Working on cost structure for student organizations to utilize photo services
Virtual EMS
- Daily schedule is available
- Working out details for student orgs to be able to plan or book room on-line

Greek awards
Architects have been in for the past 2 days. We worked a lot on food service. Some of the preliminary drafts have been done which includes the following:
- diner (combo of Nancy’s/Cap City/Thurman’s) Iconic experience that you will want to come back to visit
- Marketplace (would like to model Penn State)
- Tavern/billiards w/coffee house type of feel
- Coffee shop on 2nd floor (near meeting rooms and student orgs)
- Theater café near the theater
- Theater will not be outside, but will be at the corner of 12th & High 800 seats, with full stage w/retractable seats
- Will still have conference theater
- Loading dock will be built up against the parking garage and service corridor will be in the basement
- Developing southern side w/drop off area and engage the law school
- Camden Yards concept
- Ballroom seating 2000 w/capability to divide into four rooms
- Service corridors
- Student orgs will be on 2 floors and will look out on the south oval. Student govts will be put back with student orgs. Still trying to figure out where the MCC goes.
- Terrace for programming (model U of Colorado)
- Met w/parking consultant to determine where to add additional parking spaces (400). Ability to walk in the building from the garage. Parking garage will be remodeled when our building goes down
- Instructional kitchen in collaboration w/College of Human Ecology.
- Donation for the Interfaith Center – (Board that Deb Cunningham is on)
- We have identified top 10 donors to approach
Ohio Union Alumni Association (Heather gave an update)
