Local Resident Joins Many Ohio Women at Fall Conference


COLUMBUS, OHIO – Director Gary C. Mohr of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) led off the presentations for the Ohio Federation of Republican Women’s (OFRW) 2015 Fall Conference. The theme of the Conference was, “Ohio- Its State of Affairs”. Mohr was joined by Director Jerry Wray of the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and Tom Johnston standing in for Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Director James Zehringer.

Mohr talked about the changes and challenges witnessed in Ohio’s criminal justice system over the past 40-plus years. Wray discussed the condition of Ohio’s highway system and the challenges of maintenance and funding. Johnston presented information about the various services that fall under the auspices of the ODNR and how the department administers the various areas.

Rob Frost, Chairman of the Republican Party of Cuyahoga, gave the group detailed insights into the planning going into all areas of the 2016 Republican National Committee’s Convention to be held in Cleveland. A glimpse of the various areas of responsibility falling to Ohio was provided and the role that can be played by volunteers was identified.

Through its “Caring for America” program, the OFRW donated $4,500 to Truckin4Troops – a non-profit veterans service organization. Cpl. Larry Draughn was present to accept the funds on behalf of Truckin4Troops.

The OFRW welcomed two new clubs to the Federation: Ashtabula County Republican Women and Republican Women of Greater Cleveland. Additionally, the OFRW gave special recognition to the Bolton Republican Women’s Club (Lake County) upon its 40th anniversary. New officers for the 2016-2017 Term were elected by the organization. Those serving will be: President Lyn Bliss, First Vice-president Jeanne Bolton, Treasurer Mary Beth Kemmer, Secretary April Cohagen-Gibson, Central District Vice-president Mary Lou Saliaris, East District Vice-president LeeAnn Johnson, Northeast District Vice-president Lynda Bowers, Northwest District Vice-president Barbara Taylor, South District Vice-president Sandy Darby, and Southwest District Vice-president Robin Dodge.
