RE: 2015 Program Input-Mr Brown welcomed the advisory and went over the purpose and definition of the committee as follows:
The main function of an industry advisory is to offer support to institution faculty. Advisory
boards are comprised of accomplished experts offering innovative advice and dynamic perspectives.
Advisory boards can provide strategic direction, guide quality improvement, and assess program
effectiveness. Members’ diverse range of knowledge(s), skills and abilities inform boards that are
receptive to the ‘culture of accepting outside ideas’
Mr Brown presented the advisory with brochures and the department web pages. He explained what the
accreditation process was and how the process, court case and press were causing problems with the
College. He also explained that all courses were in the process of being updated.
He asked the Advisories input in the following areas:
1. Relevancy of our Majors and Certificates- Certificates and Majors offered in Horticulture were relevant
2. and advised that they not be changed at this time.
3. Input regarding classes offered. The advisory group felt that the Courses in Horticulture were up to date with industry Standards. They advised that more drought tolerant plants be taught in ID courses and that Turf management be adjusted to include drought tolerant, ground covers and alternatives.
4. Should be offered or should be deleted-no classes should be deleted.
5. Any other suggestions-there were no other suggestions.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM
Respectfully recorded and submitted
