BEFORE THE CLASS:

· PowerPoint to explain what GIS is ready. (ESRI has this)

· GPS Receiver with charged batteries.

· Send agenda for the day (image could be attached here)

· Have printouts for students to accomplish tasks in each website.

· Revise the lesson (Check websites are working)

DURING CLASS

· Desktop

i. Create a subfolder “GIS” in the students personal desktop folder

· Emphasize that everything regarding this activity has to be saved here.

o Use Google earth to explore different landmarks in MO, USA and the World (Partners countries- Check Grand Canyon/ Amazon, African Mt Ranges, etc.)

o Use KanGIS Studentmapper to map student data about Pizza likings etc and see them in a realtime map.

o Look Realtime Satellite Telemtery Sites- and talk about migration patterns, behavior, etc. How this change in time (seasons & space)

o Ecoregions & Hotspots. Make students explore different regions of the earth and evaluate biodiversity. Make inquiry activities or Webquest for this. See (K. Kurz- Hotspot Environmental Unit)

o Explore USGS site for some other activities

· Online Mapping (Interactive, real-time, collaborative, static) Design inquiry for these websites.
