Nuclear engineers plans and supervise the construction of nuclear reactors used in generating electric power in nuclear power plants. They often head a project management team consisting of other chemical, industrial, electrical, safety and waste management engineers in developing the total blueprint for erecting and operating a nuclear power plant.

Nuclear Power Plant Engineer Duties and Responsibilities

· Design, develop and operate nuclear power plants in accordance with state regulations,

· Research and develop the reactor processes, monitoring systems and their safe operation for electrical power generation.

· Supervise and inspect the installation, commissioning and subsequent modifications and process enhancements of nuclear reactors in a power plant.

· Coordinate with power plant engineers in ensuring safe and efficient power plant production of its specified generating capacity.

· Ensure compliance with safety codes and other applicable government regulations.

· Supervise power plant technicians, technologists and other engineers in assigned projects or daily tasks.

Nuclear Power Plant Engineer Skills and Specifications

· Should have high comprehension skills to go through manuals and engineering bulletins in the operation of the power plant

· Should have a good familiarity with basic electricity generation

· Should have an inquisitive predisposition to understand the technicalities behind each parameter in nuclear reactor operations

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

Nuclear Power Plant Engineer Education and Qualifications

· A 5-year Bachelor degree in Nuclear Engineering or related engineering courses is a basic requirement

· Passing the licensure board exams to become a Professional Engineer may not be required but gives a competitive edge in career enhancement.

· 3-5 years experience in a related nuclear reactor design or plant operations gives an added advantage
