Notice of Municipal Elections
City of Creedmoor, City of Oxford, Town of Butner, Town of Stem, and
Town of Stovall, North Carolina
A municipal election will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 in the City of Creedmoor, North Carolina to vote for Mayor and two City Commissioner seats; in the City of Oxford, North Carolina to vote for Mayor and four City Commissioner seats; in the Town of Butner, North Carolina to vote for Mayor and three Town Council Members; in the Town of Stem, North Carolina to vote for Mayor and three Town Commissioner seats; and in the Town of Stovall, North Carolina to vote for Mayor and two Town Commissioner seats. Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
Absentee ballots are allowed. Requests for an absentee ballot must be made on a State Absentee Ballot Request Form and received in the Granville County Board of Elections office by 5:00 p.m. on October 31, 2017. Absentee ballot requests due to sickness or disability must be requested after 5:00 p.m. on the Tuesday before the election but not later than 5:00 p.m. on the day before the election.
The Board of Elections will meet on:
October 17, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.
October 24, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.
October 31, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.
November 6, 2017 at 5:15 p.m.
November 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., and other times as may be necessary for the purpose of approving absentee ballot applications.
One-stop voting will be held in the:
Conference room at the Richard H. Thornton Library, 210 Main Street, Oxford, NC and the
Multipurpose room at South Branch Library, 1550 South Campus Drive, Creedmoor, NC
beginning Thursday, October 19, 2017 and ending Saturday, November 4, 2017. That is the only Saturday that we are open.
One-stop voting dates and hours for both locations are:
Thursday and Friday, October 19 – October 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Monday, October 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Tuesday, October 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday through Friday, October 25 – October 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Monday through Friday, October 30 – November 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Saturday, November 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Canvass Day will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Granville County Board of Elections Office in Oxford on November 17, 2017.
All residents of the City of Creedmoor, City of Oxford, Town of Butner, Town of Stem and Town of Stovall who are registered to vote with the Granville County Board of Elections may vote in this election. Voters who are previously registered need not re-register for this election. Those residents of the City of Creedmoor, City of Oxford, Town of Butner, Town of Stem and Town of Stovall who are not registered to vote must register on or before 5:00 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2017 in order to be eligible to vote in this election.
Persons wishing to register and vote after the registration deadline may appear in person at a One-Stop absentee voting site, complete the voter registration application form and provide proof of residence by presenting valid documents showing current name and address. You cannot register and vote on Election Day.
Any voter who has moved since the last election must notify the Board of Elections in writing by October 13, 2017. A person may register at the Board of Elections Office at 122 Williamsboro Street, or may register by mail. For additional information contact the Granville Board of Elections at 919-693-2515.
