Notes from Karla

Thank you to all who have committed to attending the new building training in March. This will be a great time to get to know your new space and responsibilities as well as an opportunity to meet other volunteers. Please contact me if you are unable to attend any of the training sessions.

General volunteer orientation will begin in April. This will be offered every month for new volunteers. Please let me know if you’d like to attend or help with the 1st session.

Would you like to learn more about the opening exhibitions? Please join us for Docent led tours for volunteers on April 27, 28, and 29. More information will follow in the next volunteer newsletter.

The countdown has begun - we will be opening in 9 weeks (as of March 1st)!

Staff Corner

I asked staff to tell me what they enjoy most in their jobs. Here are their responses:

Jason Sobottka, Art Studio Coordinator –Through the museum’s studio programming, I enjoy being connected to the local arts scene in such a strong and visible way.

Jeanette Jones-Aliff, Manager, Membership & Special Events – I have a lot of fun with Special Events because no matter how well you plan, there’s always something that ends up a little funny. For example, with our move to the new building on January 3rd, we had little time to get to know the building inside and out before the Defining Spaces event on the 8th. That said, upon the fire marshal’s inspection on Jan. 7th, I went to usher him up to the lobby via the Admin door to the stairs – EXCEPT it wasn’t the door to the stairs at all – it was the door into the bathroom! I believe the marshal’s and my face were the same shade of red!!!

Jessica Balsam, Development Assistant – I appreciate that my opinion is always valued (or at least I am made to feel that way), and that I’m always learning.

Karla Winship, Volunteer Coordinator – The best part of my job is spending time with people! My co-workers are dedicated professionals with a commitment to TAM and its mission. Their talent and knowledge are astounding. The volunteers are fabulous! I love talking with the volunteers and hearing what they think – whether it’s an opinion on TAM and the art, my job performance or just what’s going on in their lives – it’s all interesting to me.

Kevin Guenzi, Executive Assistant – I really like the diversity of my job. I enjoy getting to work with all of the departments and with the public. I enjoy getting to do all of those things that there is no one else to do them. I also enjoy getting to be involved in enough different activities each day that I can’t say I was bored.

Leslie Kinkade, Manager, Corporate and Foundation Relations – My colleagues—including our wonderful volunteer corps

Patricia McDonnell, Chief Curator – People. Working in an art museum is so rewarding for many reasons. Yet it is the range of such extraordinary people—many strong individuals—that really makes life in museums so rich.

Rod Bigelow, Chief Financial Officer – Every

time I walk through a gallery with a tour in action, I am captured by our amazing education team, and how engaged, excited and smart our visitors are.

Sara Ramey, Marketing Intern – I enjoy interacting with community members.

Sarah Dillon, Public Programs Coordinator – I enjoy the variety and creativity!
