BFKS 2014 Social Enhancements FAQ
What are the social enhancements for the 2014 BFKS season?
BFKS Mobile App and Facebook FriendRaiser.

What mobile devices are compatible for the BFKS mobile app?
The BFKS custom mobile app can be downloaded on the iPhone and Android phones. The BFKS app works with your phone’s contacts to recruit team members and fundraise through Facebook, twitter, text, e-mail or phone calls. A bowler logs on using their username and password and can easily see how much they’ve raised and edit messages to send to any of their phone contacts!

How does the Facebook FriendRaiser operate?
After a bowler opts into the FriendRaiser, the social app will automatically post status updates to Facebook every week until the BFKS event start date. The status updates are dynamic, featuring personalized information such as the fundraiser’s name, event and organization information, funds raised to date and overall goal, as well as a link to their personal fundraising page.

How do date-based messages work?
The Facebook messages are programmed to post around a certain date (2 weeks from date, 3 days from date, 1 day after date, for example). Your agency should indicate the date that you would like messages to post from or you can opt out of those date based messages on the form. There are also messages set to go whenever a bowler reaches a milestone (I’ve raised $100) and after signing up (I just signed up for BFKS!), so opting out of date-based messages will not impact FriendRaiser’s core functionality.
How much does it cost?
The cost is $150 per event website. This means that if you have a Small City BFKS website and a Big Town BFKS website and want to enable the social enhancements for both websites, it will cost $300.
How does my agency sign up?

Mail the form on the last page and your payment to: Big Brothers Big Sisters of America ATTN: Dolores McCaskill, 450 E. John Carpenter Fwy., Suite 100, Irving, TX 75062

Note that your event must be built using the BFKS 2014 template!

When will the mobile app be enabled?

If your event website is active AND payment is received by Nov 1st, the social enhancements will be turned on in your event website by Dec 2nd.
If your event website is active AND payment is received by Dec 16th, the social enhancements will be turned on in your event website by January 6th.
If your event website is active AND payment is received by February 3rd, the social enhancements will be turned on in your event website by March 3rd.

If you have events later in the year, please contact to make arrangements.

How does a bowler download and use these enhancements?
The National Office has several tools for you to use to promote each:

·  Language added to your registration confirmation e-mail that will prompt the bowler to follow a link and visit the Apple Store or Google Play to download the app.

·  A Bowler YouTube Video on how to download and use the BFKS app.

·  My HQ ad and QR code for the Bowl for Kids’ Sake app and Facebook FriendRaiser in the My HQ section

·  Pop up window appears after a successful registration to promote both the BFKS App and Facebook FriendRaiser.

·  Mobile/Social Tab will appear in My HQ section with instructions on how to use each application and prompts to download each.

Can participants customize the social enhancements?

The Facebook FriendRaiser messaging is pre-determined and the same for all event participants. This is not editable at the event participant level. Each post is dynamic, featuring personalized information such as the fundraiser’s name, event and organization information, funds raised to date and overall goal, as well as a link to their personal fundraising page.

The content generated by the mobile app is totally customizable by the participant and must be approved before sending out.

How much money should we expect these apps to raise?
Based on the 2013 results, we anticipate that 5% of your online participants will use one or both enhancements and each person who uses it will raise around $100. We suggest looking at how many people registered online last year to estimate how many people will use it and how much money it will raise. Although the mobile app generates a small amount money directly from the app, it should pay for itself and generate additional revenue.

How will we know how much money it raises?

Source codes will help us track how much money is raised directly from the app and directly from the Facebook FriendRaiser. You will be able to run registration and donation reports to see how much money was brought in weekly, monthly, or just after the event.
