Inmate Death Reported at SCI Graterford
Graterford – Superintendent Cynthia Link reports the death of an inmate at the State Correctional Institution at Graterford.
Micah Stewart, 30, was found unresponsive in his cell at approximately 3:27 a.m. on March 9, 2016.
Corrections staff immediately responded and provided life-saving measures. Stewart was pronounced dead in the institution infirmary.
In accordance with state policy, state police were notified and will conduct an investigation. The official cause of death will be determined by the Montgomery County Coroner’s office.
Stewart was serving a life sentence for first degree murder out of Lancaster County. He was committed to the DOC on February 22, 2007, and had been at SCI Graterford since February 22, 2011.
Facility staff has notified the inmate’s next of kin.
