Dear Parents/Guardians,
Thanks to all the friends, families and colleagues who have been supporting our schools effort to win the majestatreesofknowledge.ca Outdoor Classroom Contest. We are so excited about this wonderful opportunity that this contest has presented our school and community. Please remember to vote each day and help us get the word out as we need to increase our voting base to regain first place. P.S. We are still looking for creative ideas to help spread the word about the contest!
In recognition of Earth Day, our students and staff recently held an assembly in order to highlight some of our school-based environmental programs. A series of activities are planned for early May including: weeding and composting our garden plots, sweeping the rocks from the pavement area back into the playground equipment , picking up garbage in and around the school and playground, updating our garden beds with new 4X4’s, etc.
Thanks to Mme McOrmond and the rest of the Green Team for these great initiatives.
Good luck to Ben and Quinn Nathanson who are taking part in the Regional Heritage Fair on May 1st at NSCC Kingstec Campus.
Congratulations to William Ahern who recently won a number of awards at the Regional Science Fair:
· Silver Medallion in Environment
· CARP - Clean Annapolis River Project Award
· Clean Nova Scotia Award
· 2nd place overall (Grades 4-6)
Reminder that our Grade Primary Orientation will take part on May 1st. Consequently, there will be no school for students in Mme Boudreau’s, Ms. Murphy’s or Ms. Hale’s students on that day as we will be welcoming our new primary’s to our school.
Please note that our grade 5 students will be traveling to EMS for an orientation on May 25th. EMS will be hosting a meeting for new Grade 5 parents on May 19th at 7:00pm. More information on this will be sent home soon.
Finally, if you have a child who will be starting Grade Primary at New Minas Elementary School, or you know someone with a child who will be starting at NMES for the first time, in September 2015, please phone the school so we can continue to compile our contact lists as accurately as possible. Please note that the cut-off date for new primaries turning five is December 31st of the year they are to start school.

Fun Fair is just around the corner (Friday, June 5th). The PTA is asking for your help to make this year’s Fun Fair a huge success.
Every year the PTA works in conjunction with the NMES staff to put on a Fun Fair for our students, families and our community to enjoy. This year we are requesting parents to volunteer ahead of time in order to make the fun fair a success.
