General debris clearing / The minimum personal protection equipment includes hard hat, long sleeves, pants, vibram soled leather boots, safety glasses, leather gloves.
Sharp objects / cut / Wear leather gloves. Do not put your hands in places you cannot see. Long sleeves and pants required.
Chemical exposure / Do not move containers if you cannot identify the contents. Flag the area and tell your supervisor and everyone working in the area as you leave the area. To move known chemicals, full PPE to include long sleeves, splash protection, rubber gloves and other PPE as required for the situation. Requires specific analysis by work team leader.
Foot penetrations / Avoid walking on debris piles, wear vibram soled leather boots. Keep footing clear of trash and debris.
Lifting injury / Lift with your legs, stretch before beginning ardious work. Work with a partner and lift together. Do not twist and lift.
Overhead objects / Wear hard hat for protection from falling objects. Stay clear of damaged buildings until a specific analysis of that location has been completed by the work team leader.
Dust/airborne / When possible, work in well ventilated areas, wear a mask. Avoid moving material which will cause dust and other matter to become airborne. Wear a dust mask. Do not eat, drink, rub eyes or go to the bathroom in work areas.
Snakes / insects / Watch where you walk and put your hands. Areas have been disturbed and be mixed within the debris.
Working with tools / Struck by / Maintain adequate clearance between co-workers. Ensure proper posture. Wear leather gloves. Keep tools sharp and do not swing the tool overhead. Replace broken tools.
Work near heavy equipment / Struck by / hit / Do not approach unless you are seen by the driver.
Hazard trees / Struck by / Maintain a distance of 2 ½ times the length away from the faller and tree. Do not walk into an area with falling operations occuring. Fallers need necessary PPE.
Stump/root holes / Keep your eyes on path of travel. Stop your travel and complete task if your attention is diverted.
Working near roadways / Struck by / Be aware of traffic when working near roads. Post a visable lookout that can sound the alarm if needed.
