Naming Convention Standards

OVERVIEW

The following document will illustrate the appropriate naming convention standards; nomenclature and digital download information for pre-production files so that they may be used on Macintosh, WindowsNT/95 and SGI IRIX computer systems.

PROPER CHARACTERS FOR NAMING A FILE:

Acceptable characters are alphanumeric (a through z, A through Z, 0 through 9). The only non-alphanumeric characters are underscores *_* and dashes *-*

File names may not include any spaces nor these characters: / \ < > ? |

Underscores: B_B09_keyart_global_LAG_12345.psd or B_B09_keyart_NA_LAG_12345.psd

FILE NAME LENGTH

File names must be no longer than 12.3 and must have the appropriate extension.

Some Common Extensions:

.sct scitex CT

.sgi SGI RGB Uncompressed

.tga Targa RGB Uncompressed

.psd PhotoShop

.jpg JPEG

.gif GIF

.tif TIFF

.pct PICT-Mac Picture Format

.indd InDesign

.eps Encapsulated postscript

.ai Adobe Illustrator

.doc Word Document

.fh8 FreeHand 8

.qxd QuarkXpress

Some Examples: #1 & #2 = movie title (allows 2 characters)

#3 = year

#4 - #8 = product category

#9-10 = product geographic:

NA = domestic, c = Canada, f = French, s = Spanish, Global = Global

#11-12 = pre-press house and #12 – 16 = Resource#

Beauty and The Beast

FILENAME: B_B09_keyart_global_LAG_12345.psd or B_B09_keyart_NA_LAG_12345.psd

The extension will allow the file to be recognized on NT/Win95 and SGI platforms as well as maintain the 32-character limit on a Mac.

Adobe PDF file - Viewing Quality

Mechanical zipped File -a zipped file with the hi-res layered file, fonts, layouts, etc.
