Montgomery High School Scholarship List
The following scholarships are currently accepting applications. Please read the scholarship directions thoroughly and pay careful attention to the deadlines. In addition, allow yourself plenty of time to obtain letters of recommendation, request transcripts and have your essay proofread (not all scholarships will require each of these items). Name: Chula Vista Elks Lodge 2011 Teenager of the Month Scholarship
Due: Ongoing through March 31, 2013
Amount: $ 500 (two per month)
Criteria: Grade 12. Applicant must be a high school senior. Areas to be considered for the
scholarship are: character, leadership, service, citizenship, and scholastic achieve-
ment. Applicant must also write an autobiographical essay of no more than 2 double spaced pages. The essay must include the applicant's hobbies and "why you
are qualified to receive the scholarship". Completed applications are to be submitted
to Ms. Schmerbauch in the counseling center.

Name: Latino College Dollars Scholarships
Due: Ongoing
Amount: Varies from $ 1,000 to $ 15,000
Criteria: Grade 12. Applicant must be a current high school senior with Latino heritage. Applicant will have various requirements depending on scholarships.

Name: College Prowler "No Essay" Scholarship
Due: Ongoing. Students may apply once a month.
Amount: $ 2,000
Criteria: Grades 9-12. Applicant must be a high school student or current college student. Applicant must take approximately 1 minute to complete the submission form. Winners are selected randomly from the pool of applicants.

Name: San Diego State University Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships
Due: On going
Amount: Varies
Criteria: Grade 12. Use this website link to search for scholarships offered at San Diego State
University. The applicant is to select an intended major from the pull down menu as
well as Undergraduate status. The search engine will select scholarships that match that
major and graduate status. Note: All post-secondary institutions will have its own
financial aid and scholarship website so the applicant can search those as well.

Name: "I Don't Want To Pay for College"
Due: August 31, 2012
Amount: $ 1,000
Criteria: Grade 12 and college students. Applicant must be a current high school senior or a college student. Applicant must create a Cappex profile (if you don’t already have one), tell about your extracurricular, leadership, and volunteer activities, and then click on the scholarships tab, then click on "Cappex Scholarships", find the scholarship in the list and click apply.

Name: 2012 Columbus Day Celebration Essay Contest
Due: September 17, 2012
Amount: $ 125, $ 250, $ 500, $ 750 (Four awards in total to be given)
Criteria: Grades 9-12. Applicant must be in a student in grades 9-12 of any ethnic group. Applicant must complete a Contest Application coversheet (certified by a school counselor), and write an essay of approximately 250 words on one of the following three prompts, "Immigration: How I would solve this controversial dilemma…., or "Religion: Should symbols-deemed religious by some-be placed on government property?" or "The San Diego Deficit: My plan to restore San Diego financial solvency…"

Name: Questbridge National College Match Program
Due: September 28, 2012
Amount: Full four year scholarship to a top ranked university (a list of the 33 partner colleges is available on the website).
Criteria: Grade 12. The National College Match Program is designed for high school seniors who have shown outstanding academic ability despite facing economic challenges. Most College Match finalists have come from households earning less than $60,000 annually (for a typical family of four), and over 75% are in the top 5% of their high school class. Some of the factors used to select finalists are: GPA, class rank, rigor of high school curriculum, standardized test scores and recommendations. Applicant must complete the online application process.

Name: A GPA Isn’t Everything Scholarship

Amount: $ 1,000
Criteria: Grade 12. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who is a US citizen or permanent resident. Applicant must complete an online scholarship search profile at www.cappex.com and submit information your extracurricular, leadership, and volunteer activities. Name: Wendy's High School Heisman Scholarship
Due: October 2, 2012
Amount: Two national awards of $ 10,000 is the top award to the winner's school plus in their name, a National honor and recognition during ESPN’s national telecast of the college Heisman Memorial Trophy presentation, a Wendy’s High School Heisman Trophy, a Heisman Patch, and a $500 Wendy’s Gift Card. There are also state, and school winners
who receive various forms of recognition.
Criteria: Grade 12. Applicant must be a high school senior athlete who will graduate in 2012. Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of a B (3.0) or better, participate in a varsity
sport, be a leader in school and the community, and serve as a role model for underclassman. The application must be completed online at:

Name: AES Engineering Scholarship
Due: October 5, 2012
Amount: $500
Criteria: Grade 12. Applicant does not need to major in engineering. No established GPA. Rather, AES is offering a scholarship awarded on the basis of character, as determined by evaluation of the essays that are submitted. Essay must be submitted online and include applicant's full name as well as the name of the school he/she is attending in 2010/11 and his/her plans for 2011/12.
The applicant must write an essay of no more than 1000 words in answer to the following prompt: "What are your dreams for your future? When you look back on your life in thirty years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful? Submit your essay at .

Name: Horatio Alger Scholarship
Due: October 25, 2012 (Opens August 1, 2012)
Amount: Two or more California National Scholarships of $ 20,000 and over 50 California State Scholarships of $ 5,000.
Criteria: Grade 12. The applicant must be a full time high school senior in California, plan to enter college no later than the fall, 2013, pursue a bachelor's degree (student may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution), prove financial need ($50,000 or less adjusted gross income per family), be involved in
co-curricular and community activities, have a minimum grade point average of 2.0, be a California resident, and U.S. citizen. Applicant must complete the online

Name: BBB Torch Awards Scholarship
Due: October 26, 2012
Amount: Five CASH Awards: (1) $ 1,500 (2) $ 1,250 (3) $ 1,000 (4) $ 750 (5) $ 500
Criteria: Grades 11 and 12. The applicant must attend high school in San Diego or Imperial County, reside in San Diego or Imperial County, and graduate in Spring 2013 or 2014.
Write an essay of 400 words or less about, "The Importance of Ethics and Integrity in Our Community". The applicant should discuss his viewpoints and give examples, as applicable. The student may want to discuss how marketplace ethics involves integrity and civility in our community. An independent panel of judges will evaluate the essays.

Name: Coca-Cola Scholars Program
Due: October 31, 2012
Amount: $ 20,000-50 Total for National Winners
$ 10,000-200 Total Regional Winners
Criteria: Grade 12 ONLY. Must be a current high school senior attending school in the United States, be a U.S. Citizen; U.S. National; U.S. Permanent Resident; Temporary Residents (in a legalization program), Refugees; Asylees; Cuban-Haitian Entrants; or Humanitarian Parolees; complete a high school diploma at the time of application, plan to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution, and have a minimum 3.00 GPA at the end of their junior year of high school. Applicants cannot be children or grandchildren of employees of the Coca-Cola bottling companies, or any related company divisions or subsidiaries. Application is

Name: Fleet Reserve Association (FRA) Americanism Essay
Due: December 1, 2012
Amount: The essay contest’s grand national prize is the winner and a parent or guardian will travel at Association expense to Washington, D.C. to visit the White House, Supreme Court and Capitol Hill to include a meeting and/or photo opportunity with his/her U.S. Representative or Senator(s), depending upon availability with cash prizes of $2,500, $1,500, and $1,000 to each first, second, and third place winners in grades seven through twelve. Awards at regional level are from $ 75.00 to $ 30.00 and certificate.
Criteria: Grades 7-12. The essay is open to all students in grades 7-12. Application must include a completed cover sheet and a word processed essay in English and no more than 350 words on the prompt, "What My Vote Will Mean to Me." Coversheets available in counseling center. Return all required documents to Ms. Schmerbauch in the counseling center no later than November 23, 2012.

Name: NROTC Scholarship
Due: January 31, 2013
Amount: $180,000. Full tuition at one of the offered colleges or universities, all colleges/university educational fees, stipend for text books, all uniforms, three summer cruises, subsistence allowance each academic month.
Criteria: Grade 12. There are three types of applications to choose from: Regular Officer, Nursing Corps and Marine Corps. Under the Regular Officer option, applicants would have a 5 year obligation and 3 years in the Reserves. With the Nursing option, applicant would have a 4 year obligation and 4 years in the Reserves. Applications will not be processed for the Marine Corp Option. Applicants must choose either Regular Officer or Nursing Corps. The SAT or ACT must be taken by December 2012. Minimum scores required are: SAT: Critical Reading, 530/ Math, 520. ACT: English, 22/Math, 21. Prior to submitting application. Link to the website for full details and the online application.

Name: McCuen Scholarship
Due: February 1, 2013
Amount: From $3,000 to $30,000
Criteria: Grade 12. Open to seniors who will attend SDSU in the Fall of 2013 and be either an Economics major or pre-major. Applicant must have at least a 3.4 GPA, have a cumulative SAT score of 1800 or higher, and complete the FAFSA by April 1.
