8.  Reports

8.1  Principal

Mr. Santamaria highlights some main topics of interest.

8.1.1  LMAC – Full IB School: The 2016-2017 is the first year of phasing in for making LMAC and all IB program school.

8.1.2  New lockers were installed in the summer of 2016. The administration is very happy with the new layout and the open space concept that was created; it is yet to be determined how the space will be used. Also, the administration is looking at what to do with the graduate pictures - a digital picture system has been proposed. The administration has suggested making a contest out of it to get the input of students, on how to display the pictures of past graduates.

8.1.3  Bus transportation to LMAC from Rivières-des-Prairies: discussions with the STM are still ongoing – to continue in 2016-2017.

8.1.4  School Uniforms: LMAC’s new supplier LOFT will commence on October 1, 2016 – until then, LMAC cannot advertise or inform parents. When the time comes, an e-mail will be sent to parents.

8.1.5  Open House: LMAC will hold an Open House on Thursday, October 20, 2016 in conjunction with its junior school John Paul I. Busses will be provided to transport parents from JPI to LMAC to visit the senior school, so as to foster togetherness and continuity. GB members are encouraged to attend.

8.2  Chairperson

§  Nothing to report at this time.

8.3  Regional Delegate

§ Nothing to report at this time.

8.4  CLC (Community Learning Center) Representative

8.4.1  Bees: Our bees had an eventful summer. We have one Queen Bee deemed a “Virgin Queen”; it means she wasn’t laying eggs, so the beekeepers removed her joined her hive to another one. Honey production was good nonetheless and we had our first extraction on Tuesday, September 6th 2016, with one of Ms. Leger’s class. (Group of kids who worked on the project last year in Leadership). We will be receiving all our honey by the end of the month. Ms. Gucciardi’s Media classes are designing the labels and the honey will be ready for sale for the Open House on October 20, 2016. We will get a new queen in the spring.

8.4.2  RBC will be coming to speak to our Secondary 5 students about:

§ Financial Literacy (to students from the “Contemporary World” classes)

§ What you need to know to start a business (to students from the Business Administration classes)

8.4.3  Speaker: on Friday, September 23, 2016, Terri Giosia will be coming in to speak to our Secondary 3 students about transitioning to senior high school. She was here last year as well to speak with the Secondary 5 classes.

8.4.4  Dog Training Session: we are planning a dog training session with an accredited dog trainer. This is in response to the recent media coverage on breed specific bans that have been proposed. Responsible pet ownership has never been more important. An informal survey is being conducted among students and staff right now. More information to follow.

8.4.5  Portage: once again, we are planning an evening with “Portage” in November 2016. More details to come.

8.4.6  Gardening: we have invited residents of Le Jardin D’Italie to come work on the LMAC garden with students from one of Mme Desjardins’ classes on Wednesday, September 28, 2016. Écoquartier St-Léonard will also be there.

Student Council - the students brought up two subjects for discussions:

§ Lockers: concern was expressed that with the placement of the new lockers, there is less room to circulate in the hallways and therefore more student traffic. For this reason, students are asking that more travel time is given between periods (more specifically in the morning, after lunch or between periods 2 & 3). The administration explains that students need to gather all their books at the beginning of classes so that they don’t have to come back to lockers. Also, students have to learn how best to circulate in the hallways so as to improve the flow of traffic. Unfortunately, no additional travel time can be given.

§ Hoodies: Secondary 5 students are now being permitted to wear the LMAC hoodies on the last Friday of the month. However, students are asking why they cannot wear the hoodie anytime they want since it has the logo of LMAC on it. The administration recognizes that students are proud to wear the hoodie and enjoy it, however, explains that it is not part of the official school uniform of the school.

9.  Varia

§ No other subjects added
