Microorganisms Tic-Tac-Toe

Read Chapter 5 Lesson 2 on pages 250 - 258 in your science textbook. Answer the wrap up questions (1-8) on page 258 using a complete sentence. / Complete the microorganism vocabulary dictionary. (Include a picture, definition, and a great 5th grade sentence for each word.) / Read Lesson 2 in the “Cells to Microorganisms” book and answer the skills questions / written questions assignment at the end of each section. (Ask your teacher which reader you need to read: red, green, or blue.)
Write a news report about a particular microorganism. Include the following:
·  What they are
·  Where they are found
·  How do they help us
·  How do they harm us / Create a mini-book to catalog harmful and useful microorganisms. (Include 3 harmful and 3 useful microorganisms, pictures, and explanations of how each organism is either harmful or useful. / Create a rubber band book, “The Good, the Bad, and the Germy.” Be sure to answer the questions in the book.

Science unit 3: Microorganisms

Unit Overview

The purpose of this unit is to understand that microorganisms can be beneficial or harmful. Students will also learn how some microorganisms can be controlled.

Standards

·  S5L4 – Students will relate how microorganisms benefit or harm larger organisms

·  S5L4.a – Identify beneficial microorganisms and explain why they are beneficial

·  S5L4.b – Identify harmful microorganisms and explain why they are harmful.
