After more than a decade at 1400 West Peachtree Street, Atlanta Ballet moves company to a new location - a 54,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility in the Midtown West area of Atlanta, Georgia. The building comprises five (5) ballet dance studios and other support spaces for management and operations.
To reinforce Atlanta Ballet’s environmental stewardship, the new facility was designed and constructed to pursue LEED Gold Certification.

Name: Michael C. Carlos Dance Centre / Through a leadership campaign gift from the Michael C. and Thalia N. Carlos Foundation, the Centre is named in memory of Atlanta philanthropist Michael C. Carlos. Michael Carlos’s son, Chris, and Chris’s wife Merry Carlos are long-time Atlanta Ballet supporters and Merry is an active member of the Board of Trustees.

Funding: / In January 2009, Atlanta Ballet launched the “Choreographing our Future” capital campaign – the largest fundraising effort in the organization’s 80-year history. With an original goal of $14.8 million, the campaign largely supported the purchase and renovation of the Ballet’s new headquarters. Fun Facts: / ·  Building was originally constructed in 1955 and was a manufacturing plant for Hotpoint Appliances before Atlanta Ballet’s purchase.
·  In its 80-year history, Atlanta Ballet has only occupied six locations, including the original studio in the home basement of Atlanta Ballet founder Miss Dorothy Alexander and its current location on Marietta Blvd.
·  The burgeoning Midtown West District - Atlanta Ballet’s new home - includes several theatres, art galleries, boutiques, eateries, and redeveloped historic properties.
·  The new facility is almost twice the size of the former location.
·  For the first time in nearly two decades, the company’s scene shop and rehearsal studios are at the same location.
·  The facility’s main dance studio was built to scale of the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre stage, where Atlanta Ballet is a resident company.
·  Trees Atlanta, nationally recognized for preserving Atlanta's urban forest, planted 24 trees on site.
·  Rocks from the building renovation were donated to Zoo Atlanta.
·  The 22-foot glass conference room table and 28-foot glass conference room wall were donated by Tommy Holder of Holder Construction, general contractor for the project, and co-chair of Atlanta Ballet’s capital campaign.
·  Atlanta Ballet chose to renovate an existing facility to reduce the relocation project’s environmental impact.
·  Atlanta Ballet is the only arts organization in the country whose headquarters has LEED-Gold certification, the second highest achievement for LEED certification.
Sustainable Statistics:
As part of Atlanta Ballet’s commitment to environmental stewardship, several components of the building renovation incorporated “green” initiatives, including:
o  Recycled construction waste – 98% of all construction waste was recycled and diverted from landfills.
o  Energy-efficient lighting
o  Recycled carpet throughout the building
o  Sprung dance floors from the old studios
o  40 LED fixtures from “The New York City Waterfalls” public art display that were donated to Atlanta Ballet by the Public Art Fund. The lights currently illuminate the Kalwall panels in the lobby and studios of the building.
o  Donated office furniture from several local businesses and organizations
o  Dual flush valves and low-flow faucets and shower heads (a 35% reduction in water usage!)
o  Kalwall – Most highly insulating, light-transmitting wall paneling system in the world
