Memo of Understanding for ACE Applicants

ni Experience

Admission to the ACE program at FGCU is a commitment which comes with a great deal of responsibility on part of the student. This contract, although not exhaustive, is intended to inform you of expectations and requirements. Students and parents are asked to read the contract together carefully. Students are to initial each statement line and both student and parent sign at the bottom indicating agreement and adherence to the principles of enrollment. Additional requirements and expectations will be provided at ACE Orientation.
¾  I understand classes in the ACE program are university level classes and will have the same depth, breadth, rigor and pace as all university courses.
¾  I understand curriculum content, evaluation and selection of instructional materials are the prerogative of the university professors and will not differ for ACE students from that presented for traditional college students at FGCU. I understand my courses are subject to the same standards, policies and responsibilities that other college students experience unless otherwise restricted by federal, state or local requirements. I further understand that the material may be of a controversial nature.
¾  I understand FGCU is an open campus. While at FGCU, ACE students will be taking classes with non-high school aged students; ACE participants will encounter students of a variety of ages and backgrounds.
¾  I understand the ACE Director is the first point of contact for parents who wish to discuss any concerns regarding the program.
¾  I understand that although ACE students will have the ability to provide input regarding the classes they take, certain courses may not be advised or permitted.
¾  I understand that withdrawal from a course must be approved by both FGCU and the home high school and/or school district administrator and is facilitated only under extenuating circumstances which may require documentation.
¾  I understand that students may not repeat a course or use grade forgiveness while in the ACE program.
¾  It is incumbent upon ACE students to attend all scheduled classes.
(PLEASE COMPLETE SECOND PAGE)
¾  I understand that an ACE student must have a minimum term FGCU GPA of 2.0 for each individual semester AND must maintain a minimum cumulative FGCU GPA of 2.5 or higher. If a student fails to remain in good standing, it may jeopardize continued participation in the ACE program.
¾  I understand that FGCU courses that are 3 credits or less may not appear on the high school transcript.
¾  I understand that in order to participate in the ACE program a parent or guardian must accompany the student to a required orientation.
¾  I understand if a student is removed from the program they will be re-assigned to the home high school.
¾  I understand that a college transcript is a permanent record and grades will transfer as such to any post-secondary institution.
¾  I understand that FGCU ACE students will be expected to know and comply with FGCU policies including, but not limited to the FGCU Student Guidebook and FGCU registration timelines, as well as, the school district School Board Code of Student Conduct.
¾  I understand that ACE students will be registered for classes by an academic advisor who will consult with students regarding their schedule. Further, it is incumbent upon students to notify academic advisors immediately of any problems and/or issues related to my classes.
¾  I understand that ACE students may not take more than 16 credit hours during the fall or spring semester.
¾  I understand that completion of high school graduation requirements does not guarantee completion of an A.A. degree and that to receive an A.A. degree an ACE student must notify and work with the FGCU academic advisor to ensure that all A.A. requirements at the time of my high school graduation are met.
¾  I understand that ACE students must provide transportation to and from FGCU.
¾  I understand that although a student may participate in approved high school activities, the student will be expected to engage in appropriate co-curricular activities at the University while in ACE.

By signing this Agreement, I acknowledge that I have read and understand the information contained in this agreement and if admitted to the ACE program, I agree to comply with and be bound by the terms contained herein.
