MEET AN ELEMENT

PART A: RESEARCH

1. Research an element from the periodic table and complete the research draft. Be sure to record all of your sources in APA format. Refer to the citation-creating sites found on the Acadia Library wiki to format your citations correctly. You must use at least one database for your research and pictures used must be from copyright-free sites. Put the address of the location you found your picture under each picture. Refer to the library wiki for examples of sites you can use. Remember that you can use images from the databases we subscribe to.

PART B: "FACEBOOK" AND WIKI

1. Create a Facebook page: Using your research, complete a "Facebook" page to present your information. For an example, see the "Oxygen" Facebook page on this wiki. To create your own "Facebook"page, copy and paste the Smart Notebook "Facebook" page found under Gr. 9 Links on the Acadia Library wiki. Use Smart Tools to create your text boxes and add pictures. Then have fun filling in the information about your element. Be sure to use "Save as" when saving the file and use the name of your element in the file name.

2. Create a Page on the Wiki: Using the "Create a Page" feature on the wiki's Front Page (top right), create a page for your element. The name of the page should be the same as your element. Using the "Edit" feature, put the name of your element and under that, your first name. Click "Save."

3. Attach Word File to the Wiki: Go to your page and click edit (top left). Using the "Insert Links" feature (top right), click "Images and Files," then "Upload Files." Browse and upload your Smart document saved in "My Documents." Once the file has loaded and appears on the right side, highlight the name of your element on your page and then click on your uploaded file on the right side. Your Smart file will now be linked to your page. Click "Save."

4. Link your Page to the Sidebar: Click "Edit the Sidebar" feature on the Front Page (middle right). Find your page listed under "Insert Links" (right side). Your page name will now appear on the sidebar page on the left side. Click "Save."

PART C: COLLABORATION

1. Using the "Facebook" pages of the elements that belong to the same group/family, identify at least three similarities and share those similarities by commenting on each of their wiki pages.

2. Using the "Facebook" pages of the elements, find two elements that your element would join/bond individually with and describe what new substance is made on your own wiki page.
