McKee Botanical Garden in Vero Beach is an 18-acre tropical hammock with an 80-year history as one of Florida’s most enchanting attractions. Its continued maintenance and preservation is crucial to the cultural, historical and environmental awareness of thousands of visitors each year. The Garden’s ability to continue serving as a vital community asset depends largely on the strength of its diverse horticulture collections, which provide opportunities for education, recreation and lessons on environmental sustainability.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: McKee Botanical Garden is seeking a horticultural intern for the summer (2012). Duties include but, not limited to display management, cultivating, pruning plant material, cleaning and maintaining our water lily collection. Ideal candidate would also have computer background to assist with accessioning and record keeping. Environment includes working in our extensive ponds and waterway system, greenhouse, nursery and with our current horticultural staff. Must be tolerant of outdoor situations: heat, insects and rain.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Must be proficient in the full-range of grounds keeping skills and in use and maintenance of tools as required in the work. Must be able to communicate and follow-up job related instructions and have practical knowledge of regional plant material. Applicant should have good attendance record and valid drivers license. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Non-smoking.

24-30 hours/week. $9.00 hour. Housing may be provided by Garden.
