The special meeting of the Tourism Advisory Board was called to order by board member George Fiorile at 9:30 a.m.

Introduction of New Members

Introduction of a new member for the Tourism Advisory Board Member was given to, Ann Watkins from Lewes, Delaware. Heath Gehrke has also been appointed to the TAB board since the last meeting but was unable to attend today’s meeting.

Approval of Minutes

The minutes from the meeting April 14, 2009 were reviewed and approved. One change to be made was to delete: “all in favor – yes” in Introduction of New Members.

The New Delaware Tourism Office

Tourism Director Linda Parkowski presented the new Delaware Tourism office team: Susan Graham & Heather Kenton - Tourism Development Leaders in Sales, Kate Kreppein – Coordinator & Grant Mgt., Tina Madanat – Public Relations & Media Mgr., Matthew Sparks – Executive Director of Delaware Sports Commission, Kathy Krasulak and Heath Bullock in Fulfillment. Each gave a short synopsis of their job in the DTO.

PAT Reports

DTO Director Linda Parkowski presented the PAT reports. She stated the reports showed a decline in receipts as compared to same time last year. It was felt that the economic down turn was a contribution to this decline.

New Tourism Budget

DTO Director Linda Parkowski reviewed the current budget recently passed for FY2010 by the General Assembly. It was noted now in the FY10 budget, that there is now a cap on the income that the tourism budget will be able to receive. Any excess amount collected over $1,784.3 received will go back into the General Fund.

Legislative Results

Kay Wheatley discussed TEB.

TAB Chairman, George Fiorile will gather a list of items of importance, (“cap” being the most important) to review with Governor Markell and Secretary Levin at meeting soon to be scheduled.

I95 Visitor Center Update

TAB board members discussed the progress for the I95 Visitor Center. The current center has been demolished to the ground, plans to reopen in June of 2010. Concern was expressed regarding who would be responsible for staff management and funding, also what hours would be needed for staffing and how many staff members would be required? It was determined that Kay Wheatly would meet with George Fiorile to discuss a meeting with Secretary Wicks.

Public Comments from Guests

Delaware Economic Development Office Secretary Alan Levin stopped in to meet the new TAB members and to “Thank” the members for their help and assistance to the DTO. Director Levin also introduced DEDO’s new Deputy Director Bernice Whaley to the TAB members, also Governor Jack Markell stopped by.
