Make a Sign in MS Word

1. Open a new document in Microsoft Word.

2. Click “File”, then “Page Setup”...click the “Paper Size” tab then chose “Portrait” or “Landscape” for the sign orientation and click “OK”.

3. Use the Word Art icon to insert your spelling word in the middle of this sign. Edit the Word Art in any way you chose. Then “insert” a “Picture” from a “file” and use some of the graphics in the TangiTech graphics file on your CD. You could also “insert” a “Picture” from “Clip Art” and find a piece of clip art from the Office Suite that you like.

4. Click “Format” and “Borders and Shading” then click the tab that says “Page Border”.

5. Now click the drop down arrow by “Art” and scroll down the list until you see a border that you would like around your sign… choose a border and click “OK”. Click “File” and “Save As” and save your sign in your desktop folder.

6. Click “File” and “Print”. If you get a message that says “The Page borders of section 1 are set outside the printable area of the page. Do you want to continue?” Click “No” and go back to “Format” then “Borders and Shading” and in the bottom right hand corner click “Options”.

7. In the “Measure From” drop down menu chose “Text” and click “OK” then “OK” again and go back to “File” and “Print”.

8. Don’t forget to put your name on your sign somewhere.

If you are putting a lot of text on a sign like this, one you have to make your text wrap around your graphic. To do this:

1. Click on the graphic to get the “handlebars”.

2. On the Picture toolbar click the “Text Wrapping” icon.

3. Choose the kind of text wrapping you want to have (you may have to try out several options to see the one that looks the most graphically pleasing)
