MAINTENANCE WORKER/WATER/WASTE WATER TREATMENT OPERATOR
POSITION – MAINTENANCE WORKER
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Assist with maintenance and repair work on heating, plumbing, electrical, ventilation and air conditioning systems in building. Clean lubricate replace or repair mechanical equipment such as belts, motors, air handlers, generators, and filters. Check, test install and repair electrical equipment, writing and fixtures. Perform semi-skilled plumbing. Keep drainage systems clear and in working order. Test and treat steam plant systems and chemicals and check controls, valves, traps and boilers. Use electric and gas welders to repair metal devices. May construct, install and repair partitions, shelving, doors, windows, roofs and floors. Will perform grounds work and collect and haul rubbish. Maintain records to reflect time and material utilized computer generated work order system.
Perform related duties as assigned.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
(A) Basic math. Basic carpentry, plumbing, electricity and pipefitting.
(B) Check, test, install and repair electrical equipment. Repair and install plumbing fixtures. Use power and hand tools. Read and understand maintenance instruction manuals. Give and follow verbal and written instructions. Demonstrate and observe safe work practices.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Driver’s License
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Electric and gas welders to fabricate, weld and repair metal objects. Read and understand dials, gauges and thermometers. Maintain and operate power equipment.

POSITION – WATER/SEWER OPERATOR
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Assists in the operation of valves and other related controls to distribute flow through unit process and application of chlorine and chemicals to waste water. Monitors control equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, blowers, sludge collectors, heat exchangers, sludge thickeners and other related process equipment. Reads meters, gauges and other instrumentation. Maintains a daily record of facility operation, samples collected and corrections to unit processes. Adjusts or alters chemical treatment of the plant as necessary. Collects samples for observation and analysis from unit processes. Performs daily and weekly laboratory analysis as needed for process adjustments and performance indicators. Operates a wide variety of tools and equipment used in minor mechanical repair and operation of process equipment.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Methods, materials and equipment used in operation and maintenance of a waste water treatment facility. Basic laboratory procedures and analysis. Basic computer skills and knowledge of SCADA systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Perform routine mathematical calculations. Follow oral and written directions. Develop and maintain effective working relationships..
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Driver’s License
Possession of a valid certificate as a Water/Waste Water Treatment Operator, Grade 1 or better.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Operate heavy equipment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Positions in this class require moderate to heavy physical work with prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting and carrying loads weighing up to 95 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position may involve field work, resulting in exposure to the weather and exposure to disease causing bacteria.
