LUCKY 13 BIOS
Lucky 13 CD
Lucky 13, Sonic Underground’s latest release, is a compilation featuring the diverse music of Cathy Kreger, Marci Geller and Susan DeVita. It marks the label’s 13th anniversary, a feat for any entity in today’s tenuous music industry as well as a declaration of its unyielding tenacity as a very “independent” record label.
“I guess we’re just plain stubborn,” boasts SU’s co-founder Marci Geller. “We never had the budget or staff of a major, or of most of the independents for that matter.” “We have always had to think outside the box to survive.” “Lucky 13,” and Sonic Underground continue to tempt fate and push the limit with pride.
Bucking with tradition and genre specific bounds, Lucky 13 offers an array of blues infused folk songs, witty, dark pop ditties, acoustic ballads that stir the soul and jazz inflected soundscapes that will mesmerize the listener. “When we decided on a compilation, the artists selected came to mind easily,” explains DiMauro. “We’ve had the pleasure of working with these individuals separately over the past years, and uniting them in this one package was a perfect fit.”
Each artist not only brings their unique voice and songwriting skills, but their perseverance, positive energy and diligent work ethic. “This is not just an ordinary release,” states Geller, “It is a cooperative effort that pools our talent and singular vision so we can work off of one another’s strengths.” Hosting 12 strong songs by the four artists and the 13th title track entitled “Lucky 13” which was written and performed by Marci Geller, Cathy Kreger & Susan DeVita, Lucky 13serves as a commemorative musical soup for the headiest of listeners
Cathy Kreger
“Her voice could make a bulldog break his leash to hug a hound!” says one fanatic fan. Armed with only an acoustic guitar and a voice as clear as cool water, Cathy Kreger delivers more pure music per minute than a bevy of roadhouse rockers. Her irresistible voice and guitar has earned her a place on stage with world-class acts, including: Bonnie Raitt, David Bromberg, The Band, Patty Larkin, Maria Muldaur, Taj Mahal and Aztec Two-Step.
For over 20 years, this girl and her guitar have been touring throughout the Northeast performing in small theaters, bars, churches, colleges and homes, gathering a devoted following. Her original songs of true-life stories will pierce your heart, evoking tears and laughter along the way. Kreger turns folk, rock, blues, and pop influences into a lyrical and melodic style that is as passionate as it is polished. She has released four CDs to date. Her latest CD release Pure Imagination has garnered rave reviews, securing her a place in the acoustic arena. Singer-songwriter
Marci Geller
The founder and co-owner of Sonic Underground, singer/songwriter Marci Geller has a lofty resume. Highlights include performances on Live! With Regis and CNN Worldbeat. She has toured domestically with her band and internationally as the opener and back-up vocalist for Ritchie Blackmore’s group Blackmore’s Night.
Her emotionally raw music can be heard in soundtracks on MTV, VH1, PBS, ABC Family, A&E, Discovery Channel, USA Network and others. Her passion and tenacity have enabled her to forge a distinct niche in the independent music arena, resulting in her being named one of the “Top10 Best Singer/Songwriters” by Independent Songwriter Magazine.
The piano-based chanteuse invites the world to peek into her musical diary. Called “A Millennium Carole King” by Ear Candy Magazine, she says she’s currently listening to “a lot of Ben Folds and the other artists on the —Lucky 13—CD.”
Susan DeVita
As a young girl, Susan DeVita fell in love with music while dancing away the Brooklyn afternoons to Beatles records and Sousa marches. When a piano found its way into the house, her singing and composing skills blossomed.
Her unique voice and songwriting talents earned her a production contract with legendary record producer Arif Mardin. She was subsequently signed by Paul Atkinson to RCA Records.
After taking a heartfelt sabbatical to raise her sweet “Golden Boy” (son James), Susan has returned to recording and performing with refreshed passion and energy and a cache of exciting new material.
