Ohio Local Foods Week 2016
June 9, 2016 NOTES:
Local Foods Week Social Media Campaign:
· Hashtag for Twitter and Facebook #localfoodOH
· We will write a list of suggested posts for Facebook and Twitter. The suggested post document will include the following:
o The written post
o A royalty-free photo
o A link (if appropriate)
o Indicate what program area(s) this post represents. FCS, ANR, 4-H, CD
· PLEASE everyone send ideas for social media posts. If you want to write a post, please feel free. If you don’t want to do that, at least send topic ideas even if it’s a link to an article – we’ll work it into the document. If you have a photos of different events that you’ve done in your community (and they can be posted) we welcome that also!
· Shawna and Patrice will schedule a time to talk in more detail next week. Anyone else interested in joining this call to get the social media posts organized?
$10 Local Foods Challenge
· We want to keep the sign-up really short but we also wanted to have information from the participants. Last year we asked where they were from, where they got their local foods, if they anticipated they would spend more than $10 on local foods and how much?
· In 2015, people could sign up in 2 ways – online (qualtrics survey link) or we also had a paper copy (depending on the site and the audience). The biggest challenge for the paper copies is that we do not have a centralized way to enter them online.
· At the end of this monthly update is a list of the questions we used in 2015 for people to “sign up” for the $10 Ohio Local Foods Challenge – it looks good, keep it the same for 2016 or here are some thoughts/additions/changes for the 2016 sign up.
· As soon as we have the final questions, Patrice will make up the 2016 qualtrics survey and the link – the link will go on the brochure to promote OLFW16
Email out to Extension-misc.:
· First check links on localfoods.osu.edu to FCS (FCS website now updated), Patrice will work with Julie Moose on that
· An email (now) to highlight the current resources – toolkit including proclamation, idea starters, etc. Patrice will send it out next week
· We will send an additional email to all Extension to share the new tools added to the website (like the tri-fold brochure and links to the Ohio Local Foods $10 Challenge).
Suggestions for partnering with local chefs:one suggestion is to look up the 30 mile meal. Athens has a program and Mahoning has adapted the idea from them.
Ohio Local Foods Week Printed Materials (for use in counties and at Ohio State Fair)
· Currently working on posters that can be printed and hung up at community sites (like at Farmers’ Markets, fair grounds, etc.)
· Tri-fold brochure (is currently designed but we will wait until we have the link for the $10 challenge sign-up before we put them on the website)
· Tattoos/Stickers
· Discussion: on the needs/use of the free-standing display posters. (We used to have some for Local Foods Signature program with the old logo so we no longer use those). What would be the best topic if we were to have them made? Local Foods in general seemed more useful than a specific Ohio Local Foods Week or even the Signature Program. Does the Signature Program have funds to purchase some to share? Are counties interested in purchasing their own to use? Mike will send information to Heather about approved vendor he has used in Central Ohio.
Next steps on these printed materials:
· Heather will check with ANR state office about the current budget for purchases. She will also check about using the vendor recommended by Mike.
· Once we know the budget, we will look at numbers of posters to print, brochures to print and order stickers/tattoos – for Ohio Local Foods Week
· Once we know the budget, we will look at the best way to order larger banners
Community Nutrition Connection:
· Patrice and Margaret are working on this – will also talk with Jenny in Hamilton Co.
Local/County/Regional/Community Updates:
· Please send your events and information (links to websites, etc.) to Heather and Patrice. Our next step is to get these events on the local foods state website calendar
· Patrice needs to send information about “Food Fridays” in Lucas County. It’s a lunchtime event downtown Toledo, outside of the Government Center. Last year it happened on the Friday of Ohio Local Foods Week and this year we have secured some sponsorship (for musicians) and there will be food trucks for lunch and some farm stands to purchase fresh produce.
· Franklin County has a list of events they will be sending to be included on the website.
State Proclamation
Patrice will check with Gwen W. about it for 2016
