August/September, 2006

It has been awhile since I last wrote, as you can imagine I am counting the days until I return to South Africa. I will be leaving the states on October 31 and arrive in South Africa on November 1. I am already uncomfortable just thinking about that long journey back, 20 hours of flying time!

I have enjoyed time spent with my family and friends. People have been truly AWESOME in supporting Our Journey. We have had many opportunities to share our story at local Rotary Clubs, Optimist Clubs, Churches, and friends’ houses. I will be traveling to NY and Boston next week; and will be sharing my experiences and showing a presentation on September 25, at 7 PM at the Church of Christ, my old church in Burlington, MA, and will see many of my old friends, neighbors and many people from my past. If you happen to be in the Boston area at this time please contact us for details.

Let me share some of our blessings – I feel like I am walking with angels!

Two women organized a sewing club this summer; they have sewed over 100 pairs of shorts and sundresses for me to take back to the children in the valley. Can you imagine!!!!

One wonderful lady has made 9 baby quilts with names on them for each baby I had in crèche (nursery) last year – I can see in my mind their little faces light up – it is not often they have something of their very own. Check out the picture!

Local friends from my neighborhood are sponsoring a wine-tasting and silent auction on October 12 to raise funds and awareness of my year in South Africa. If you are in the Georgia area and would like to purchase a ticket be sure and contact us for details.

I am pleased to announce a new Board Member; Teddie Martin from St. Simons Island, GA. has joined our team to serve on Our Journey’s Board of Directors. We are really excited to be working with her.

Again, thank you so much for all of the support and blessings we continue to receive!

Much love,

Maureen
