Daily 25%

Labs 35%

Unit Tests 20%

Benchmarks 20%

Grading:

Students are expected to turn in assignments on time and demonstrate proficiency. Students who are absent are responsible for finding out the assignments that they missed and are required to make them up in a timely manner (please read below). Any additional make-up requires prior teacher approval.

Make Up Work:

Students who fail to turn in work required to show mastery of course curriculum due to an approved absence will receive a zero (0). Students will be given five (5) school days past the end of the grading period in which they may complete the missing work. After the five (5) day period, all missing work will be given a zero (0).

Textbook:

Students will not be issued a textbook for this class, but one will be available for classroom use.

Classroom Rules/Conduct:

·  In this class you will be working with classmates within the classroom and within lab settings. An environment suitable for safe working levels will be maintained at all times. To ensure this, the school wide discipline plan (see Parent/Student Handbook) as well as other rules will be enforced. If minor violations occur a warning will be given; and repeated violations will be addressed through appropriate instructor-selected discipline procedures.

·  Classroom Discipline Procedure:

·  1st Offense: Warning

·  2nd Offense: Students will serve 30 minutes detention before/after school and complete work task assigned. Failure to serve TD results in two days administrative detention. Failure to serve AD results in ISS.

·  3rd Offense: Will result in parent contact.

·  4th Offense: A third will result in disciplinary write-up to Mrs. Adams.

·  Students are responsible for bringing all materials to class every day. Sometimes you will be asked to turn in your papers when they are completed. Other times, you will be asked to place your papers in your folder for this class.

·  Students and teachers are expected to work cooperatively in maintaining the classroom environment. This process will include keeping the class and lab clean & rearranging the furniture from time to time. Lab days will involve skill-learning plus clean-up duties. This will help to ensure that our department exhibits an attractive image, that the students learn the most efficient methods to maintain a work area, and ultimately, achieve the end result of becoming a productive worker in our society.

·  Students will work on assignments alone, in pairs and in groups. In some cases, you may have to work with someone you wouldn’t choose—this gives you a chance to learn to work with everyone and it helps develop & build a good work ethic.

·  Restroom passes –Please ask to use the restroom as you enter class before the bell rings. There will be a bathroom pass located at the front door that can be used if someone needs to go during class, but only for one person at a time.

·  ALL passes must be written in ink only.

·  No student will be allowed in any area of the Family and Consumer Sciences Department (including offices) without permission from an instructor.

·  No food or drinks (with the exception of water) will be allowed in the classroom at any time! All food and drinks should be placed in book bags or placed out of sight. Any canned drinks or cups will be discarded when entering into the classroom.

·  Facilities and Materials - There will be no utilization of department facilities, equipment, and materials without the direct permission of an instructor. (This includes using markers, construction paper, etc. for use on projects other than Early Childhood.)

·  There will be no use of perfumes, lotion, sprays, makeup, brushes or combs of any kind.

Computer Use:

Students will be required to access the Internet for some assignments and projects. Each student must have an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) on file at the school. All policies in the AUP will be followed.

Students should only use the Internet when instructed for classroom purposes. Students who are caught downloading/streaming music, on inappropriate websites, attempting to bypass the server, or participating in other questionable activities will receive a referral and their computer privileges may be revoked.
