LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF SANTA BARBARA

Environmental Hearing Officer

Kathy Allen, Supervising Senior Planner

City of Goleta

Subject: Kenwood Village Residential Project

Hearing on Wednesday, June 15, 2016

The League of Women Voters does not understand why this project is being processed at all.

There is no water available for these 60 homes, and all their landscaping. Faced with our current

long-term drought, and an almost empty Lake Cachuma, none of the South Coast cities should be

considering adding new residential users.

We are also puzzled about why there have been two Environmental Impact Reports (EIR) done for this project. Like the Shelby Project, this should have been reviewed in one inclusive EIR. All of the Class 1 impacts in the General Plan Amendment EIR should have been fully discussed in the Project EIR because they will certainly impact this housing development.

There is no question that the entire South Coast is in need of low cost rentals, but this project does not provide any of them. Goleta has already approved a very large number of luxury homes and expensive apartments, so we do not need any more of either of those. The League believes that no more developments like this should even be processed during our present drought.
