LABORATORY SAFETY RULES

1. Never sit or stand on counters, tables, etc… and close cabinets when not in use.

2. Do not take photos or videos of teacher or students without prior consent.

3. Report all injuries or accidents immediately!

4. Always follow proper procedures when using hot plates and Bunsen burners.

5. Wear goggles and gloves whenever directed to do so. If you must remove goggles for any reason, leave the lab area of the classroom and wash your hands first.

6. Never perform any unauthorized experiments.

7. Always follow ALL the directions and listen during the pre-lab lecture. Ask questions when in doubt.

8. Clean up any messes and spills.

9. The lab area will be inspected at the end of each period. Any person or group that fails to clean up will cause the entire class to remain after the bell until it is cleaned up.

10. The fire extinguisher and eye wash kit will remain in my office until an emergency. Only I will operate them unless you are directed to do so.

11. NEVER taste any chemical or material we use in class unless directed to do so.

12. No Food or Drink in lab when materials are out.

13. Wash hands, WITH SOAP, at the end of all labs.

14. Long hair must be pulled back when using chemicals and burners.

15. ALL solid wastes, including dissected parts, will be placed in the trashcan or proper container at the end of the lab. NOTHING is to leave the room.

16. Never discard broken glass into trash can. Notify me, and I will wrap it up.

17. Clean out sinks and drains after clean up!

18. Stay in your lab area during lab…Do not wander around.

Never throw anything, push or shove anyone, horseplay, etc… It will not be tolerated.

20. Do not harm animals or destroy their habitats. Ask before you get animals out.

STUDENT SAFETY CONTRACT

I WILL:

-Follow all instructions given by the teacher.

-Conduct myself in a mature and responsible manner at all times.

-Follow all of the rules on this sheet.

I, ______________________________, have read and agree to abide by the safety rules as set forth above and realize that breaking these rules will result in some disciplinary actions. These actions could be as severe as denial of future lab participation. This would significantly lower my grade and/or cause me to be removed from the class without credit.
