Red Toolbar: MAIN TOOLBAR
à Open, save and print documents just as you do in MS Word.
(New in version 13) / à When the scanner is connected and the scanner settings are established in the “Scan”drop down menu (above the red toolbar), click on this button to begin scanning.
(New in vs 13) / ®  Click on this symbol to read from the web.
à Click on the green “Read” button to begin reading. Click “Back” and “Forward” to repeat a sentence or skip to the next sentence. You will notice the “Read” button become when you click on it.
à This button indicates that the sound is on. Click on it to toggle to .

Yellow Toolbar: READING TOOLBAR

The number in the white box indicates the page you are on. The number in the second gray box indicates the total number of pages in the document. / Click on this button to view thumbnails of the pages in the document.
Green Toolbar: STUDY SKILLS TOOLBAR
Þ  Click on the color of your choice. Then drag the cursor across text to highlight it.
Þ  Click on the eraser icon. Then drag it across highlighted text to get rid of the highlighting.
Þ  When you click on this icon to add a footnote, a split screen will appear, AND a number will appear in the document to mark where the note will appear. Make notes in the bottom window. Click on to continue in the document and to make the split screen disappear. Click on the number in the document to view the note.
Þ  When the split screen is open, click on to remove the note.
Þ  The “Close” and “Delete” icons are only functional tools when the split screen is open.
Þ  Sticky notes can be placed and moved anywhere in the document. Click on the “Sticky” icon. Click anywhere in the document. A yellow text bar will appear. Type in the text box.
Þ  Hover over the box until a “4-way arrow” appears. Left click and holdàdrag the note to anywhere in the document.
Þ  When using the “Sticky” tool, the icon becomes a functional tool. Click on it to remove the note.
Þ  Text can be inserted between the lines. Click on the “Text” icon. Then click in the document where you want to insert text. Type in the text box.
Þ  When using the “Text” tool, the icon becomes a functional tool. Click on it to remove the text.
Þ  Insert an auditorally recorded note using a microphone. Click on the “Voice” icon. Then click in the document where you want the recording to be used. A pop-up window entitled “Voice Notes” will appear.
Þ  Click on the to start recording. Click on to stop the recording. Click on to play back the recording. Click “OK” to place the recording in the document. A will appear in the document to mark the recording. Click on it to play.

Þ  Bookmark a word, sentence or idea in a text. Place the cursor in the text where you want to create a bookmark. Click on the “Bookmark” icon in the toolbar. Use the “Bookmark” pop-up window to create the bookmark. The icon will appear in the text.
Þ  To find a bookmarked item, click on the icon in the toolbar. Choose the item from the “Bookmark” pop-up window. The chosen item will be read by the program.
Þ  Used for taking notes while reading and doing research across documents, taking in-class notes, and reviewing or studying notes while in the Writing Screen. Go to the Outline feature by using Extract Column Notes to Outline from the File menu.
Þ  A floating window that displays the contents of a Column Note file in read-only mode. Only available when a text file is open and not available in Brainstorm or Outline. To access: open a text document, click the note snippets button, on the dialog window, select the name of the Column Notes file you want to display, then click Open.
Þ  Used as a self correction support while writing or editing. Words may be highlighted in the word list as they are used in the document; words may be dragged and dropped into the document; double clicking on a word will provide a definition. To use: Open a text document, click the Floating Word List Button, and select the word list you want by clicking on its tab. Custom word lists can be created using the Edit Word Lists command.

Start Writing
(New in version 13) / Start Writing a new blank document or a document from a template
Brainstorm View / Brainstorm is a graphic organizer that allows for quick collection and organization of thoughts. You can create a diagram from scratch or create one from an existing Brainstorm template. Switching from Brainstorm to outline, draft or draft with a split screen view.
Outline / Outline is an alternative way to begin the writing process allowing for quick jotting down and organizing ideas. It shares information with the Brainstorm diagram, draft and split screen windows allowing for switching back and forth between the views. New blank outlines or outline templates are available.
Split Screen / Split Screen view allows for outlines/brainstorm notes to be visible in the left-hand pane while using the draft area in the right-hand pane.
Draft view / Draft used after brainstorming and/or outlining to actually write. Drafts can be created from a New blank draft, from a brainstorm/outline document or from a template.
Writing Checklists
