Course Description: This course is an introduction to the practical knowledge of dealing with sports related injuries in exercise and sport. The course includes a study of the prevention, evaluation, basic treatment of these conditions.

Attendance Policy:

This class is important to your professional development as an athletic trainer. All students are expected to attend class on a regular, and punctual, basis and meet University attendance guidelines. The ETBU attendance policy found in the university catalog states that students must attend at least 75% of all classes in order to receive credit for the course. This policy will be adhered to in this course. In addition, use of cell phones during class will count as an unexcused absence for the day. Attendance will be checked daily at the beginning of class. If you are more than 15 minutes late to class, you will be counted as absent.

Late Work: Late work will not be accepted. Assignments not turned in due to an excused absence must be turned in the day you return to class. It is the responsibility of the student to find out what assignments have been missed.

Grading Policy: Students will be evaluated based on completion of assignments, tests, hands-on lab activities and attendance. Final grade will be determined based on a percentage of total possible points. Instructor has the ability to amend syllabus and assignments at any given time. You will be notified as to any changes. Your final grade calculation will be based upon the formula given below; however, the instructor has the privilege of deleting or adding assignments at any time following the general template listed below.

Research Assignment:

During the semester, you will have the opportunity to select two topics related to general medical conditions in sports to research. Using the library resources (EBSCO), you will find three quality journal articles and prepare a three page paper over your topic. Papers will be turned in as a turnitin assignment on blackboard. See rubric for more details.
