Ms. Kristi Giles

Manager of Volunteers for The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore

Volunteer Department

1876 Mansion House Dr.

Baltimore, MD 21217

Dear Ms. Giles:

I am writing to express my sincere interest in becoming a member of The Maryland Zoo, as an Intern for Animal Behavior or an Animal Keeper intern, for the advertised summer session of 2014 posted on the Maryland Zoo's volunteer page. I am a progressing photojournalist major seeking out to capture and give an understanding of nature through photography and essays. With a pinch of Anthropology I wish to experience and understand foreign lands and their inhabitants. The chance to be able to work with and understand wildlife right here at home will greatly increase my knowledge in the field in which I strive to enter.

The two years and a half of attending photography and journalism courses in a university, and the few years of working for jobs have provided me with the skills in exceptionally learning material and then in return educating others with the proper forms of communication. Furthermore, In the service industry hospitality is a key and it is necessary to know how to provide a visitor with not just the proper form of treatment but also with enthusiasm, understanding that this industry benefits from good reputation, and regular visitors and providers. With this knowledge I know all too well how to provide visitors with a great experience. Working with the zoo will not only heighten my ability to work for a service but instead will allow me access to the knowledge I need for my chosen career. Animal behavior, what they need, what allows them to excel, and much more is what I need to know due to the exposure and closeness to wildlife my chosen career will deliver. This internship will provide me with the knowledge I seek to become familiar with.

In addition to the contributory skills of my work experience I also have established skills with the genuine demonstration of my education. This attributes to the necessary handling of multi-tasking and the need of organizing to complete tasks that provide achievements outside my education, while still keeping my education as my number one consideration. I have shown this by demonstrating artistic qualities , necessary for photography, with the number of awards and privileges I have been entitled to. Also by demonstrating time management and organizing skills in my position as a Salisbury University newspaper photographer by keeping events and photographs organized while meeting deadlines. Also by committing as far as to educating myself with demonstrations and presentation of other cultures and fields. Although I possess these attributes, the one achievement that proves the worthiest is my 3.91 GPA that shows that the skills of multi-tasking and organization have been achieved in my academic career.

In conclusion, I would like to again express my sincere wish to get an internship with the Baltimore Zoo. I'm sure this position would provide not only an educational experience but an enjoyable one as well. I welcome to meet with you whenever possible to further discuss my skills and qualifications. Please feel free to contact me at your convenience at the number or email listed above. Thank you so much for time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Jonathan L. Arias
