Making the Blocks
Note: Use a 1/4" seam allowance for all stitching.
1. Select all labeled A strips. Join one of each color strip in the order shown in the diagram on the next page to make a 10 1/2"-wide strip set. Press seams in 1 direction. Repeat to make 3 A strip sets total. Carefully square 1 end of each strip set. Crosscut the strip sets into (10) 10 1/2" segments to make 10 A blocks.

2. Repeat step 1 with all labeled B strips, all labeled C strips, and all labeled D strips to make (10) 10 1/2" B blocks, (10) 10 1/2" C blocks, and (10) 10 1/2" D blocks.
Completing the Quilt
Note: Refer to the quilt drawing on the cover as needed throughout the following steps.
1. Arrange the blocks in 8 diagonal rows beginning with the 2 blocks (B and C) in the top left corner as shown in the diagram below. Join the blocks in each row. Press seams in opposite directions from row to row. Join the rows. Press seams to 1 side.
2. Apply a heavy coat of spray starch to the outside blocks on all edges and press dry. Trim each edge 1/4" beyond the corners of the inner blocks as shown in the diagram to complete the 57" x 57" quilt center.
3. Handling the edges carefully, staystitch 1/8" from the edge all around to stabilize the bias edges.
4. Select the 2 1/2" light green, 1 1/2" medium green, and 6 1/2" dark green border strips. Sew each set of 2 strips short ends together to make a long strip. Press seam to 1 side. Trim strips to 42", if necessary. Stitch the 3 strips together on the long edges in the following width order to make a pieced border strip: 2 1/2", 1 1/2", and 6 1/2". Press seams to 1 side.
5. Repeat step 4 with the yellow, gold, and orange border strips; the red-orange, bright red, and dark red border strips; and the bright pink, fuchsia, and purple border strips.
6. Center and stitch a pieced border strip on each side of the quilt center, starting and stopping stitching 1/4" from the corners of the quilt center. Miter the corners, carefully matching the seams of the borders from edge to edge. Trim the corner seam allowances to 1/4". Press the corner seam allowances open and the border seams away from the quilt center to complete the quilt top.
7. Remove the selvage edges from the 83" backing pieces. Join the pieces on the long edges with a 1/2" seam allowance. Press seam open. Trim the side edges to make an 83" x 83" backing piece.
8. Layer, quilt, and bind using your favorite methods and the previously cut binding strips to complete the quilt. Note: Join the 2 strips of each binding fabric to make a long strip and then join the strips. Match the color of the binding strip to the color of the border on the quilt top. This will require careful planning before stitching the binding to the top.
