SPIRITUAL WARFARE
GOD
(Isaiah 42:13,22) Warrior, War Cry
“The Lord will march out like a mighty man, like a warrior he will stir up his zeal; with a shout he will raise the battle cry and will triumph over his enemies.”
“But this is a people plundered and looted, all of them trapped in pits or hidden away in prisons. They have become plunder, with no-one to rescue them; they have been made loot, with no-one to say, “Send them back”.
Isaiah 59:15-21 Intercede, salvation, vengeance, zeal
“Truth is nowhere to be found, and whoever shuns evil becomes a pray.
The Lord looked and was displeased that there was no justice. He say that there was no-one, he was appalled that there was no-one to intervene; so his own arm worked salvation for him and his own righteousness sustained him. He put on righteousness as his breastplate and the helmet of salvation on his head, he put on the garments of vengeance and wrapped himself in zeal as in a cloak. According to what they have done, so will he repay wrath to his enemies and retribution to his foes; he will repay the islands their due. From the west, men will fear the name of the Lord, and from the rising of the sun, they will revere his glory. For he will come like a pent-up flood that the breath of the Lord drives along. The Redeemer will come to |ion to those in Jacob who repent of their sins”, declares the Lord. As for me, this is my covenant with them, says the Lord. My Sprit, who is on you and my words that I have put in your mouth, will not depart from your mouth, or from the mouths of your children, or from the mouths of their descendants from this time on and for every, says the Lord.”
Isaiah 13: 3-5) God mustering an army for war
“I have commanded my holy ones; I have summoned my warriors to carry out my wrath - those who rejoice in my triumph. Listen, a noise on the mountains, like that of a great multitude! Listen, uproar among the kingdoms, like nations massing together! The Lord Almighty is mustering an army for war. They come from faraway lands, from the ends of the heavens – the Lord and the weapons of his wrath to destroy the whole country.”
Isaiah 52:7-10, 12 Bare His Holy Arm – salvation. Be your rear guard.
“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace and bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion “Your God reigns!” Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices; together they shout for joy. When the Lord returns to Zion, they will see it with their own eyes. Burst into songs of joy together, you ruins of Jerusalem, for the Lord has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem. The Lord will lay bare his holy arm in the sight of all the nations and all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.”
But you will not leave in haste or go in flight; for the Lord will go before you, the God of Israel will be your rear guard”.
Isaiah 66:15-16 Fire, chariots, flames of fire
“See, the Lord is coming with fire, and his chariots are like a whirlwind; he will bring down his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. For with fire and with his sword the Lord will execute judgment upon all men, and many will be those slain by the Lord.”
Joel 2: 1 Sound the trumpet, Zion – Feast of Trumpets
“Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy hill. Let all who live in the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming. It is close at hand.”
:15 Trumpet Fast, Bridegroom and Bride
“Blow the trumpet in Zion, declare a holy fast, call a sacred assembly.”
Joel 3: 9-14 Prepare for war
“Proclaim this among the nations; Prepare for war! Rouse the warriors! Let all the fighting men draw near and attack. Beat your ploughshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears. Let the weakling say, “I am strong!” Come quickly, all you nations from every side, and assemble there. Bring down your warriors, O Lord!
V 12 Let the nations be roused; let them advance into the Valley of Jehoshaphat, for there I will sit to judge all the nations on every side. Swing the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, trample the grapes, for the winepress is full and the vats overflow – so great is their wickedness!”
Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision. “
Hab 3: 3-4 Radiance – rays flashing from His hands – hiding of His Power
“God came from Teman, the Holy One from Mount Paran.
His glory covered the heavens and his praise filled the earth.
His splendour was like the sunrise; rays flashed from his hand, where his power was hidden.”
8 Rides horse – chariots of Salvation
“Were you angry with the rivers, O Lord? Was your wrath against the streams? Did you rage against the sea when you rode with your horses and your victorious chariots?”
9 Light of the thine arrows – gleaming spear
“You uncovered your bow, you called for many arrows. You split the earth with rivers.”
Bow made Bare
(Zeph 3:17) “The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”
Lord the victorious warrior
(Ps 7:10-13) “My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright in heart.
God is righteous judge, a God who expresses his wrath every day. If he does not relent, he will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow. He has prepared his deadly weapons; he makes ready his flaming arrows.”
Shield, sword, bow, deadly weapons, arrows fiery shafts
(Ps 24: 7-8) “Lift up your heads, O you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of Glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.”
King of Glory, strong and mighty in battle
(Ps 35:1-8) “Contend, O Lord, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me.
Take up shield and buckler; arise and come to my aid.
Brandish spear and javelin against those who pursue me.
Say to my soul, “I am your salvation”
May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shame; may those who plot my ruin be turned back to dismay.
May they be like chaff before the wind, with the angel of the Lord driving them away; may their path be dark and slippery, with the angel of the Lord pursuing them.
Since they hid their net from me without cause and without cause dug a pit for me, may ruin overtake them by surprise – may the net they hid entangle them, may they fall into the pit, to their ruin.”
Shield, Spear, Battle Axe, Angel Lord, Nets
(Ps 68:1-3, 17-21) “May God arise, may his enemies by scattered; may his foes flee before him.
As smoke is blown away by the wind, may you blow them away; as wax melts before the fire, may the wicked perish before God.
But may the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful.”
God Armies, Chariots
(Ps 78:41) “Again and agin they put God to the test; they vexed the Holy One of Israel.”
Destroying Angels
WAR IN HEAVEN
Rev12:7-9 “And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down – that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth and his angels with him.”
Devil, Satan, Great Red Dragon (3-4) 1/3 angels cast down
(Isaiah 27:1) “In that day, the Lord will punish with his sword, his fierce, great and powerful sword, Leviathan the gliding serpent, Leviathan the coiling serpent; he will slay the monster of the sea.”
Sword – punish fleeing serpent* (Matt 12: 43-45) - 7 worse “When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, “I will return to the house I left”. When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation”.
demons – pigs
(Ezk28:2,6,7,9,12-18)”Son of Man, say to the ruler of Tyre, “This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“In the pride of your heart you say, “I am god; I sit on the throne of a god in the heart of the seas.”
But you are a man and not a god, though you think you are as wise as a god.”
V6-7 “Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“Because you think you are wise, as wise as a god, I am going to bring foreigners against you, the most ruthless of nations; they will draw their swords against your beauty and wisdom and pierce your shining splendour.”
V9 ”Will you then say, “I am god,” in the presence of those who kill you? You will be but a man, not a god, in the hands of those who slay you.”
V12-18 “Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: “This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz and emerald, chryssolite, onyx and jasper, sapphire, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared.
You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you.
Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, O guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones.
Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendour. So I threw you to earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.
By your many sins and dishonest trade you have desecrated your sanctuaries. So I made a fire come out from you, and it consumed you, and I reduced you to ashes on the ground in the sight of all who were watching.
Satan’s fall * (Ps 106:36-37) Idols/demons
“They worshipped their idols, which became a snare to them. They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons.”
(1Cor 10:19-22) Idols/demons
“Do I mean then that a sacrifice offered to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything? No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons to; you cannot have a part in both the Lord ’s Table and the table of demons. Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy? Are we stronger than he?”
(John 8:44 -) “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
Murderer, liar, father of lies
1Tim 4:1 ”The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and tings taught by demons. “
Doctrines of demons
JESUS
(1 John 3:8) Jesus appeared to destroy works of devil
“He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.”
(1 John 5:12-19) While world lies – power to Satan
“He who has the Son of God does not have life.
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This si the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of him.
If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that he should pray about that. All wrong doing is sin and there is sin that does not lead to death”.
Hebrews 2:14-15 Death – render Satan powerless – fear of death
“Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death – that is, the devil - and free those who all their lives are held in slavery by their fear of death”.
(Col. 2:15) Public disarming of rulers, authorities, triumphing
“And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross”.
.
Acts 10:38 Devil oppressed.
“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went about healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.”
Luke 14:28-32 Count the cost before you go to war
“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it? For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, saying, “This fellow began to build and was not able to finish”.
“Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Will he not first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace.”
