A well written CV with no spelling or grammatical mistakes is essential if you want to secure an internship. Applications received after this date cannot be accepted.

Please note that if you are undertaking an internship, you must apply for a Tier 4 (General Student) prior entry clearance visa in advance of your coming to the UK – separate handouts on prior entry visas will be emailed to students on receipt of their AIFS internship application form. The Tier 4 visa currently costs $420 USD (October 2016) and is subject to change. This fee is paid to the UK Consulate not AIFS

Preferred internship assignment / To help us place you, please indicate in order of priority (maximum of three*) the preferred areas for which you wish to be considered for an internship, please note that the choices you make must be based on and relate to your educational background, work experience and interest.
·  Art:
Small art galleries and exhibitions exposing works from local artists and photographers. Duties usually include: general admin tasks, supporting staff on organising exhibitions, liaising with artists, dealing with promotional material and social media, etc.
·  Charities:
Charities in London are vast and varied. Sectors are usually: children, teens, elderly, environment, animals, mental and physical disabilities, poverty, etc. Students are able to intern in small charities and the main duties may involve helping with general administration, fund-raising, telephone evaluations, research, etc.
·  Communications & PR:
A basic requirement for internships in PR is excellent writing skills, what entails no grammatical or spelling mistakes. As just one example, a spelling mistake on a commercial web page may cause potential customers to doubt the credibility of the website and the organisation. Another important aspect to be considered is that PR companies check the candidate’s Twitter, Facebook and other social media. For this reason, it’s always important to ensure that the content you present on your accounts is of a professional nature. Internships available are usually in small and mid-size companies specialising in PR. Duties involved may include shadowing individuals organising press briefings and events; writing/editing press releases and blogging (dependent on writing skills); research and general administrative tasks.
·  Finance & Economics:
Private Financial and Investment planning and consultancy firms. Duties may include supporting financial advisers and helping with general office admin tasks. Depending on performance some students are able to attend board meetings and meetings with customers.
·  Education:
Schools will require a background check issued from your local police department. Duties could include: assisting class teachers in maintaining student records, reading with pupils, prepare displays of students’ works, support teachers with admin tasks, support students with behaviour problems.
·  Fashion:
Fashion internships are usually with stylists, fashion consultants and designers - small companies and freelancers. Duties include assist with general administration, be involved in visual merchandising and social media. Students may also intern in small boutiques creating window displays, advising customers on products and designers, preparation of items for sale, assisting with social media posts, assisting in general organization of the boutique.
·  Food Science & Nutrition:
Nutrition research and/or food production companies and/or charities. Nutrition companies and charities deal with nutrition promotion and interns would do admin support, nutrition research, community activities, promotion of nutrition events and projects. In a food production company, interns will be involved with more technical aspects, dealing directly with food manufacturing and quality control for small producers.
·  Interior Design:
Students may intern with interior designers and consultants, helping with general administrative tasks, assisting the design team on other tasks, helping schedule supplier presentations, maintaining materials library – some students may be required to have Autocad and/or Photoshop experience in order to Photoshop images to communicate designs to clients accurately and create/fix drawings on Autocad. Students may also intern in showrooms undertaking research to support the sales team, collating information on competitors and target stockists, under direction of the sales team, sending out information to the targets and following up, general showroom and admin duties.
·  Journalism:
Small local newspapers, websites and online magazines specialising in different subjects, such as: fashion, sports, cultural activities, etc. The duties may include research, editing, general admin, writing features and blogging.
·  Law:
Students are placed in boutique law firms specialised in different legal areas. Interns are mainly involved in helping and supporting staff with general office and admin. Depending on the performance, some students are able to do shadowing on hearings (according to the specialisation of the firm).
·  Marketing:
Internships are usually in small brand marketing agencies specialised in brand strategy, advertising and social media. Duties may include general office admin and key tasks which may include answering telephone calls and taking messages, filing , database, research, social media/networking , supporting staff in small projects, etc.
·  Property & Real Estate:
Real state agencies and property investment consultants. Duties may include: helping the staff with general office and admin tasks, support consultants team, which provides insight and advice on commercial agreements, negotiations, business’ dealings, investment management, financing and fund raising, due diligence and legalities.
·  Publishing:
Small publishers and/or distributors working with the dissemination and promotion of literature and information. The duties may involve helping the staff with office administrative duties, liaising with suppliers and other publishers regarding their new titles, placing orders and seeing them through to delivery, research, etc.
·  Sports & Leisure:
Internships are usually in gyms, sports and leisure centres. Duties may include reception desk duties, assisting with administrative tasks, assisting gym staff members, etc.
·  Video Production:
Small video production companies. Interns will be assigned tasks depending on current productions but may be asked to provide assistance in all areas. Other tasks may include helping the staff with general admin and studio duties.
