POSITION: / Director of Online Education
PRIMARY LOCATION: / DeKalb Campus
DESCRIPTION: / The Director of Online Education will be responsible for designing and implementing a long range strategy for online programs and courses, developing new programs for online delivery, maximizing effective use of emerging technologies for teaching, advising and consulting with Academic Affairs leaders on online strategies. This position provides academic, administrative, and operational oversight for the online education programs. Major duties include coordinating the curriculum and assisting the faculty in the management of academic, administrative and operational components including planning and assessment; preparing semester calendars and course sequences; assigning course loads; training and evaluating adjunct faculty; writing program materials, developing and maintaining online learning website information, serving as a liaison with college departments and external partners.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: / ·  Provides direction to, supervises and evaluates instructional technology and distance learning staff and recommends appropriate types of professional development.
·  Oversees the development, maintenance and implementation of all online learning related policies and procedures, ensuring compliance.
·  Advises and works with academic deans, department chairs, and individual faculty to plan, develop, and coordinate online programs and courses based on sound and effective instructional design models.
·  Works with the office of Institutional Effectiveness to ensure compliance with distance learning SACS requirements and guidelines.
·  Develops a comprehensive strategic plan for online learning at GPTC.
·  Designs and implements a quality assurance plan and metrics for online learning and works with faculty to enhance and improve the quality of existing online and hybrid courses.
·  Conducts research and assessment to identify effective instructional technology solutions to support the college’s strategic plans.
·  Oversees instructional design and delivery, faculty development, curriculum development, industry best practices, and legal and institutional requirements.
·  Coordinates faculty development workshops in online teaching and learning through the Center for Teaching Excellence.
·  Ensures that needed technical assistance is provided to instructors using selected software tools for creation of online course content.
·  Recommends new technologies and works collaboratively with relevant IT units and key stakeholders to ensure that the appropriate technology infrastructure is in support of online education initiatives.
·  Participates in assessment activities to determine effectiveness of online educational programs and services.
·  Prepares reports related to all aspects of online learning for internal and external constituencies.
·  Manages all operations of the online learning unit.
·  Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: / ·  A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university *and* five years of relevant experience working with or in online program development and/or instruction in a college or university setting.
·  SACS qualified to teach in a program appropriate to the college.
·  Experience working in online programs as an instructor and course or program developer.
·  Demonstrated proficiency with at least one major learning management system, preferably Angel or Blackboard.
·  Strong managerial experience and demonstrated effectiveness in working collaboratively with faculty and content experts in online learning.
·  Experience designing and implementing innovative approaches to online educator training and development.
·  Experience designing and/or implementing an online learning strategic plan.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: / ·  A Master’s degree.
·  Five years of relevant experience in the management of online programs in a college or university setting.
·  Knowledge of information technology educational product development, software training, production support, and class scheduling is desirable.
·  Web site development experience is useful.
salary/benefits: / The salary range is commensurate with experience and education. This is a full-time position with paid state holidays, accrued annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Health and Flexible Benefits Program.
