INTEGRATED WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT ADVISER

PACIFIC IWRM NATIONAL PLANNING PROGRAMME

The European Union Water Facility has provided SOPAC with funding to implement the Pacific Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) National Planning Programme over the next two years (2009-2010).

The regional “Pacific IWRM National Planning Programme” focuses on strengthening governance structures (coordinating national water committees) and frameworks (policy, legislation, action plans) to mainstream IWRM and Water Use Efficiency into national planning processes.

Applications are invited for the position of IWRM Adviser to be based within the Community Lifelines Programme of the Secretariat of the Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission (SOPAC), located in Suva, Fiji Islands. The IWRM Adviser will work closely with Project and Programme Advisers to implement the IWRM Planning Programme and will support the implementation of the GEF funded ‘Sustainable Integrated Water Resources and Wastewater Management Project in Pacific Island Countries’ project.

Applicants should have an undergraduate and/or postgraduate qualification(s) (and/or equivalent work experience), preferably in one or more of the following: water resource management, water supply, sanitation, governance, engineering, natural resource management, business, economics, management, development, or related subjects. Applicants should possess at least five years experience of working with water, with some of that time in a multi-sectoral environment following academic study. Applicants must have excellent communication skills and written and spoken English, and be able to demonstrate a broad understanding of development aims and approaches.
